I'll be taking part in this along with 9 other colleuges. Our team called "No Strategy, No Coordination" will be pitting their wits, aptitude and cunningness against 30 other corporate teams whilst tackling obstacles and solving problems in the hope of being crowned the 2010 Ty Hafan It's a Knockout Champions.
We are mostly staff from City & County of Swansea's Housing and Community Regeneration department, we will be aiming to raise as much money as possible and have a laugh (probably at each other) whilst trying not to get too wet, messy or embarrassed!
We are trying to raise as much money as we can for Ty Hafan, which is now in its 10th year of providing respite, palliative and end of life care to children and young people with life limiting conditions. It has been an important part in the lives of many families throughout Wales.
Team captain Martin Whatty has first hand experience of the ongoing family support from Ty Hafan. Martin's daughter Bethan was born with an undiagnosed brain condition which contributed to many other medical difficulties resulting in a high level of medical care for her, and social and emotional support for her as well as the rest of the family. Sadly Bethan died in the hospice during January 2007 not long after her 4th birthday, but the Hospice continue to support the family and any surviving siblings on a regular basis as well as honouring and remembering all the children and young people who have been through the hospice in the 10 years of providing their services.
Martin Whatty says, "Ty Hafan has been a great source of help and support during the very short time we had with Bethan. What has been really special is way that the whole family has been welcomed and supported by them. We still attend Ty Hafan for memorial days and Christmas events and Bethan's older brother is still actively involved in the siblings' events and activities.
"I am thrilled that fellow colleagues have agreed to give up their free time during a busy holiday season to help raise funds for Ty Hafan and hope that those not able to take part will support us by cheering or heckling at the event and help us to raise as much money as possible."
The event takes place in the The Vale Resort, Hensol starting at 12 noon on 15th August. Further details of Ty Hafan generally can be found on their website http://www.tyhafan.org/, and more details of the event can be found here. http://www.tyhafan.co.uk/get-involved/our-events/august-2010/its-a-knockout.
We have a justgiving page if anyone would like to donate here:
