I want to start doing a few track days, i've never been on track before so a bit scared :ghey: has anyone in the SW done one before that is'nt too far away and doesn't break the bank.

Supermonkeykong has done quite a few. Flik on here mentioned an upcoming one near Bristol also although I forget where exactly.
castle combe has got to be the best one im my opinion. my first was part of the PCAD series. I believe it cost something like 8 quid for a ticket and 30 quid per 10 min track session. Was my firs ttime so I was bricking it, but by the end of the day, I was having a really good time. Fully recommend it. Just wish I still had my s14a :(

See I've heard that airfield trackdays are the best place to start normally ~£100 for a day with an open pit lane iirc

Airfields don't let you feel like your on a proper track though, as you don't have the cool curbs, only little cones etc.
but yea, Combe is your best bet.
If its your first time out, Id try and get to Colerne airfield near Bath- easily the best airfield day Ive driven.
Round about £100 quid, open pitlane- with Motorsports events.
Good driving etiquette and no pressure as its open pitlane. Agreed its not as good as a circuit, but its the best airfield ive driven.

Anyone know a few airfields a bit further down? traveling up to Bristol each time is not ideal.
small strip of unused tarmac at dunkerswell airfield near honiton if your quick, not sure if its legal though ! :P . and what about davidstow for a mess around. obviously, these places arent tracks though

A few people have looked in to events further south/west but haven't had much luck :(

Ill give coombe a go i i think. Never thought about airfield track days, may give one a go although i like the idea of going round a track, that way i wont get lost or destroy cones.
theres a PCAD event at castle combe on the 11th of september ;)

Been doing some research and found that its quite common for there to be a sprint/ Up hill event near myself, there's two places that seem to be used..
St Eval Sprint & Castle Hill hillclimb.
Unfortunately the only people I can see using these are the Newquay Auto Club and the South Hams Motor Club (Plymouth based), as much as I would like to attend their meets. From viewing their videos their cars seem to be towards the full race spec rather than Daily/track car, Roll cages and jump suits. whether or not their cars are forced to meet race guidelines, fuel tanks and cut off switches and such I don't know.
But it never hurts to check things out, I find myself in the same position as Davus and would ideally like to cut my teeth somewhere local rather than blowing the car up hours away.
