Simon

Ok I have been asked to suggest a car to my mum for her to buy.
Unfortunately its going to be a scrabble waggon (JB sorry mate but its gonna happen)

She wants something nice looking as standard I guess sporty looking but is not all that worried about speed or anything.

So does anyone have any suggestions. Im guessing she dont want to spend much more than around 5k.

Gimme some ideas people please

Hmm a couple of Celica's are coming up on autotrader for <5k, not a bad proposal for the ones with the quad lights at the front some p regs but possibly high mileage.

Looked at one of these 2nd hand that was ~2 years old, it was shite, falling apart and generally wearing out fast! I'd rather have a 10 year old celica than a 2 year old hyundai!

OK just to surprise you all I'm going to reply sensibly to a scrabble post.

My sec drives a 1.9TDi Seat Ibiza (the new shape one). Went on the the test drive with her last year and was mighty impressed. Very quick (lots of low down torque, so you don't have have to rev it to death), extremely well built, handles tidily for what she want, looks nice, has every conceivable gizmo you could want and cost 11K.

One of the office girls has just got an 03 1.2 Ibiza which is basically the same thing but slower. Cost £7995 before discount and even has climate control as standard. 3 years warranty & breakdown and they threw in 3 years free servicing to get the deal.

And honestly these things are better built with better materials than my E class which cost slightly more.

Can't say fairer than that

306 GTI-6 :D

167bhp, leather, and a 6-speed box, one of the best handling scrabble-wagons out there :D :D

Have a look at the top one, less than 5k for an immaculate R plater (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_search.asp?page=1&modelexact=1&make=PEUGEOT&min_pr=&postcode=ba1+3rq&source=0&model=306&max_pr=&sort=3&variant=gti&mileage=&miles=1500&photo=1&keywords=&agerange=&max_records=200&search.x=37&search.y=4) :D

what about an mx-3 the 1.8 v6? im not sure how new you can get them. You could probably just get a p reg crx del-sol. The little convertible ones, i 1.6 vtech, still reasonably fuel economic and quite fast if you rev them, plus they look well cool and not many about.
