Hi guys, I'm trying to get as many different opinions here as possible.

There is a possibility that I may be moving for a new job; the job is in Peterborough and so far I've heard fairly average reviews of the place. I'm 25 so I'm looking for somewhere that's got a half decent rep to have a good social life.
Now it's still only a maybe but IF it goes through I will have to move (from Southampton) to somewhere within commutable distance of Peterborough.

Any opinions, experience, advice would be really appreciated :)

Thanks

Tom

It's not bad, but not a patch on Southampton.

I work in Peterborough and live about 20 miles away... I'm looking to be living in Peterborough around the start of next year!

What kind of stuff are you into for night life? I'm out and about in peterborough most weekends, I've been to pretty much every bar and club there is to offer! :wack:
The nightlife isn't bad considering Peterborough doesn't have a university, you can't really compare it to most university cities though... There is however, a good selection of clubs catering to most tastes in music. Having said this, the bar scene is a little bit lacking - if you want to go to a good bar, you'd have to head to Cambridge.

Thanks guys!
What about areas within commutable distance that are better/nicer?

erm.... :wack:

What do you mean by better/nicer exactly? You also need to define commutable distance - I do a 46 mile round trip to work every day and that's too much of a commute for me (having said that I've been doing that commute for almost 8 years now).

Sorry lol, don't mean to offend anyone from Peterborough.
I'm only going on what I've been told so better/nicer can be taken as: more modern, sociable, younger person oriented etc

I've been offered the job on a 3 month basis, to a) see if it's for me and b) see if I'm for them. So I need to find a place asap.

I'm sure nobody will take any offence mate  ;)

To be honest, people's interpretation of peterborough varies from person to person. I quite like the place, but then I live in a village just down the road from the middle of nowhere :wack:

If you've got the job on a 3 month basis, get in on a house share in Peterborough. It'll be cheap and you'll get to meet some people who're in a similar position to yourself (lot's of nurses end up in house shares to begin with ;) ). Try rightmove.co.uk (they have some house shares advertised at the low end of their listing) and easyroommate.com (you might have to google that as I'm not sure that's correct :wack: ) both have proved productive for finding my friends places to stay!

For a bigger, more young person oriented city, you're looking at travelling about 40 miles, which pretty much puts you out of commuting distance. The nearest cities are Cambridge and Northampton. Having said that though, London is just over an hour on the slow train, Birmingham and hour and a half and Nottingham about an hour (ish)... You can get to them all from Peterborough train station, so although Peterborough may not be the hive of activity you're looking for, it does have great transport links and bigger more vibrant places aren't far away!

There are options for living between the bigger cities - Huntingdon is about 20 miles away (pretty much puts you slap bang in between Peterborough and Cambridge) and has excellent transport links. Having said that, it's a shit hole and I personally hate the place! Top that off with a taxi bill of about £40 to get home from a night out in Cambridge or Peterborough and you won't really want it on your list.

To be honest, you'll be hard pressed to find somewhere more youth oriented in commutable distance unless you're willing to travel about 80 miles per day.

Out of interest, what kind of job are you going for and who's it with (pm me if you don't want it public)?
