Ive seen quite a few Cosworth ICs used on Silvias and I reckon SAAB ICs could be slotted in front of the rad just like on quite a few S13s.

Why should you be satisfied with a small intercooler? There isn´t such thing as "too big intercooler", sometimes the car just isn´t big enough  I guess that the pictures will tell the rest of the story :D (The car is not mine, pictures from a finnish silvia)

I have fitted a 1989 2.0L starion intercooler to my s12 but I wouldent say that it was hassle free.
The I/C is fitted in the front air dam and both the in and out pipes go around the right hand side of the radiator (if looking at the car from the front).

S.E nissan do a buget intercooler kit. To use this kit you have to get hold of a 2WD cossi I/C and S.E will provide you with all the pipe work and mounting bit for it. This sits between the radiator and the engine so I dout that it will do that much cooling!.

I should have so pics of all the pipe work used on my intercooler by the weekend if your intrested. You could also look at this site as it has quite a few good examples of intercoolers that have been fitted to s12's.

waco - how do you get over the problem of running lean at that boost.
I was running 1 bar on mine but was running so lean it was stuttering and spluttering. have turned the bleed valve off now so only running 0.6 bar but with no pinking (just not snappy enuff!!)

thanks

I had a Volvo I/C too, but blew the sides off at 18psi. Got a cossie one mounted in the front now but taking it back out as the piping is too awkward and long to do.

Going for a top mounted one under my scoop now. Not as efficient but I don't want to loose my radiater cowl etc.

Had an S13 intercooler in the wheel arch at one point, pretty naf tho to be honest.

This one I have now needs no piping at all, goes straight on to the throttle body on one end and directly on to my T28 the other side with a rubber joint.

So, the verdict in my opinion is:

Easiest to fit, with little disruption is top mounted. Most efficient is Volvo (just don't hit it with 18-22 psi like I did) one. Reasonably easy and semi efficient is S13 under the wheel arch.

Have a look at Paul Roscoe's top mounted intercooler - very smart indeed -

Top mounted? Good question...

Mine's out of a "TA TA Turbo Deisel Pickup". Having the welding done on it today so it drops straight no my S12 :)

Do you have to get some sort of dyno papers in england after installing an IC or a new turbo? In finland it´s annoying to build a car, because adding an intercooler would be referred to changing the whole engine, and you have to get papers for the excess power gained from the IC... And when you change enough parts (50%), you have to pay some tax again. (the tax is like 50-60% from the price of a NEW car, but it of course is lowered by the age of the car etc.)

Same thing with the taxes, if you´d like to bring a car from other country. For example, 200SX (S13) costs like 10000€ average in here finland, and in germany, you can get one for 2500->€. But the state is such ****ing robber, taxes are over 4000€´s

So it´s really no fun to live here and build cars  The cars are friggin EXPENSIVE, its EXPENSIVE to drive 'em (petrol, insurance etc.), it´s EXPENSIVE to build 'em <- thats pretty much same everywhere :o . But anyway. IT SUCKS! I´m really going to move away from here someday. Pfft. That´s all for now, bye.

Edit: And did I mention, that in winter they put salt on the roads to prevent ice in here.. That friggin' goo eats your car in few years, if you don´t get it rust protected. Older cars, just like S13 SX sure will have rust on 'em, if they have been driven in the winter.

DAVE!!!!

I've just got a Volvo intercooler and radiator and cowl and bottle from the scrappy - all like new - £40 the lot!

Having the intercooler strengthened so I can run 16-18 psi.

Then on will go the uprated fuel regulator which I've had for weeks.

Woohoo!

:D:D:D:D
