How would a modified Ford puma compare to a 250+hp S13?
I had an arguement/discussion with one of the managers from work yesterday about it. He reckons his FRP is quicker than my 200. I asked him what power he had at the wheels and he said 190... (but i don't think he knows the difference between @wheels and @ flywheel). He also said his puma will do 50 in first but i don't think he's using a standard box.
From what i remember the racing puma is 150hp and will do 125 as standard. I can't see a 1.7 non-turbo ford lump being capable of throwing out 230ish at the flywheel without some serious mods... and by the sounds of the car it wasn't that heavily modified......
Anyone ever had a run in with one??

Oh and SCRABBLE!
:D
nah!!! I had on ebehind me the other day, don't know if he was trying or not but i left him behind.
from parkers:
Ford 1.7i 16v Racing
disp: 4/1679
BHP: 153
Top speed 126
0-60 7.8
MPG 34.9
:)
The FRP is extremely slow and you will easily beat him, certainly in a straight line.
The standard 1.7 engine puts out something like 135bhp, and the racing Puma has 15 extra horses.
I went round a test track in the FRP and a mondeo diesel, and the mondeo was quicker......
The handling of the FRP is excellent though (even if the tyres occasionally touch the wheelarch)
I was alongside a non-racing 1.7 Puma while driving a certain silver car and can say the FRP will struggle against a stockie but will be good on the corners. (if only rockstar could see me now   )

Haha PML :D :D
Yeha, also my Rally Monster Hyundai Accent has TT and 4wd and is only 106bhp, 1.5i 16v. PML:D :D
He is wrong. My mate has one, chipped and exhaust and filter, had a small blat against him a while back and after first gear he gave up. Read my mods, not many. They are NOT 190 bhp, wheels or fly. This really is quite funny. :D :D

I used to do them pumas all day long in my corolla GTI-16 let alone the GTI-R.
ARRYS s13 used to do my corolla, so you going to be not even remotely challenged by the Puma.....two words spring to mind...
GAY and Slow:D
I recall reading that the Racing Puma was the equal of the Elise on a track?
I was always slightly sceptical...

The Racing Puma has a great chassis, its just woefully underpowered...

Tell him to take his dagenham dustbin back to ford and buy a proper car like a 200sx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or if you want to make the race a bit more equal , tell him you will only use th first 3 gears

Seriously... this guy is convinced that his FPR is quicker in a straight line (though i've already admitted to him that his will out handle mine). No matter what i said to him he just would listen... he ignored my power/weight ratio arguement, my RWD/FWD arguement and even my tyre width/traction arguement. He kept harping on about how his car had 50/50 weight distribution..... yeah... like that's really gonna help your 1/4 mile time
The reason i started talking to the guy in the first place was because he was in mid discusion with some guy with an old 3L turbo supra. This other guy claimed his car was "Group A" and 400hp. The guy claimed that he'd deliberately kept it looking standard to fool people. I had a quick look round the Supra.... standard wheels, cheap tyres, stock exhaust, stock springs and it didn't sound anthing special. Talking sh1t i reckon..... He also said his next car will be an R34 skyline which he's gonna tune to about 700 hp..... quite a feat for a guy who can only afford a 15 year old supra.
 ..... pah!!! the people you meet on corporate team building days  At least the go karting was fun....
To whoever it may concern...
I found one the other day, followed it onto the roundabout, both turning right, I got bored following him slowly, so went to got to the outside, he floored it, and I though, what the hell, floored it too, we both exited the roundabout side by side (though me being on the outside was doing 20mph more than him) selected third, apexi intake growled into life and left him for absolute DEAD!
Oh yeah, and as for the build quality of Ford, if you look under the arches of these, you will ACTUALLY SEE THE ORIGINAL PUMA WINGS AND ARCHES UNDERNIETH
My mate at work has one of these and we both went to brands for an Evo track day and on the straight i could pull away from him quite easy and my car was running shit but in the corners its a different matter the grip you get from these is unreal and they are probably one of the best handling cars around and are known to beat Elises round tracks  I have also driven one that was a test car at work around the twist lanes in the local area and i couldnt believe how easy it went round bends. They are 155 bhp as standard and you will struggle to get much more from them without forced induction and i doubt you would get 190 out of it if it was still NA.
The 300bhp Cosworth rally version however

He definitely has no turbo in his anyway... he was slating the "little boys" who fit turbos to their FPRs and saying how he'd tuned his properly and kept it NA.
Handling wise... i know they're good.... on a par with a Teg-R.....
but that's the least of my worries...
Guy from work with a 928 S4 gave me a little challenge today after i accidentally sniggered at his kerb weight of 1560kg.... he was not too amused to find out that his porsche has a lower power to weight ratio than a mildly tuned S13 :D I just hope he's not serious about the little 1/8 mile race down the straight outside work this friday
I seem to have made a lot of car enemies this week :D

If so, you'd better hope not!

This one (http://www.wolfeden.org/928S4/dyno.php) which has a few mods (filter + zorst) puts out around 275rwhp, so 175ish rwhp/tonne. S13 at around 230(at the wheels, 260-270 at the flywheel?) would be similar bhp/tonne if I've calculated right...
Edit another site says 320bhp, which is 256 @20% trans loss.
S4 - 320 bhp
GT - 330 bhp
GTS - 350 bhp
Might be a bit close! :(
Never mind, his clutch will probably give up in the first 20 m...... :D :D :D

i followed a standard puma onto a roundabout last night, he exited on the inside lane, so i HAD to overtake him. We were doing about 40 as we exited, and i had mad about 3 car lengths on him by 70 (started one behind, ended one in front) then hit third, and left him for dead.
well i'm not surprised they only put out 125bhp if it was a 1.7VCT and it could have even been a 1.6 (100bhp) or 1.4 (90bhp)

iirc puma is same chassis as fiesta, in which case it will outhandle the bollocks of a 200, i know my old fiesta would whip a 200 on a good twisty country road and round average sized roundabouts its just point and squirt and its sticks like turd to a blanket. i used to take pride in embarrassing powerful cars on my local twisties (which are very twisty) but show a ford a straight line and it just sucks ass thru a big fat straw.(unless we are talking tuned cossies etc)
fact of the matter is they are ford and in retrospect a pile of steaming merde.
200 will leave a motorspot puma for dead in anything other than the proper twisties.
