Controversy of the day for you all to discuss. A hyptothetical question.

With the influx of Max Power ppl we are seeing recently and the new affordability of variants such as the s13 to the bbc brigade, the time is right for the SXOC to make a stand for decent car owning people everywhere and openly declare an anti barry policy. This would include the following.......

Discuss.

I would like to just see a message on the front page explaining how we don't condone certain things and to leave certain attitudes at the gates before you enter. Maybe then people like cockstar will think twice before upsetting the towns folk.

You know what concerns me? All of these barry boys join the club, and then take over it from within! Maybe a statement about Lax Bowels etc and our opinions on it on the front page will prevent them from joining the club? Sure, we'll get a few twats join the board and post abusive posts, but its better than the alternative!

You could have a questionaire for prospective members to fill in

1.Do you read Max Power?

2.Do you think the Saxo is the fastest car in the world?

3.Are neon washer jets cool?

4.Is your girl friend still at school?

5.Would removing your BBC involve surgery as it has never come
off your head since you bought it and is now part of you?

Then if they answer yes to any don't let them join

I think DNA screening members for the Max Power gene is a bit OTT and I would never think of denying anyone ownership of an SX.

BUT I do see alot of gripes on this board (more than I can remember) which could be avoided if people are made aware of the prevailing attitude of the majority of club members and SX owners.

Some sweeping generalisations of SX owners for you :wack:

We tend to be over 23

We tend to be working professionals

Alot of us are home owners in stable relationships (ok maybe thats an exagerration).

For some reason 70% work in IT ?

We read EVO instead of Redline.

We think cruising is anti social

We think meets, track days and organised events such as karting ARE social.

We ORGANISE our events rather than turn up on a street corner.

I have never seen a police presence at an event.

We would invite said police officers in if they did and buy them a coke or summit.

A kicking base system is last on the list of things to do.

We don't tend to drive past schools at high speed to impress girls.

Anyway not really your average bbc makeup.

I just see some people who get a hard time ever so often (plucks example from air : Speedypete) they don't necessarily have to find out the hard way about things. If they are made aware that most of us think a cruise or a kicking base system and flick paint is fine but not really our cup of tea. And when another cockstar turns up and does another evo v skyline thread if we all tell him very early on he needs to calm down then all the better. I think we know when someone is going a bit OTT.

Maybe we would all get along better that way ?

People speed by schools to impress girls? I go slow when I see a crowd of people, that way they get a better look

I said they where a bit sweeping.

BUT

Even in your answers which you seem to suggest are at odds with my views you show yourself to be a "serious" car enthusiast ?

Sounds like an odd description you can't pigeon hole people as you have shown BUT there is this definite distinction between you and me and say a BBC corsa owner.

Can't quite quantify it tho but I would say we are perhaps more "serious" about our hobby ?

Very bad description I know but I can't think of how else to describe the prevailing ethos you find in SX owners.

I think the only way to handle this is on a case by case basis. I realize this will be time consuming and we will have to put up with an occasional lousy post but we have this problem now. You remember the war threads that went on a few months ago? People have opinions, sometimes they are arseholes but can you honestly say there is no "Corsa/Nova" boy out there that wouldnt get along in this BB?

I wear a BBC, have Neon washers, think some big wings are cool, but I can refrain from cussing at people and making myself look dumb(sometimes).

Stereotyping IMO is another form of racism, do we want to be guilty of this?

Slight problem with that........which i hesitate to bring up.......and i consider myself to be a usefull, non abusive, upstanding member of this board (please feel free to correct me there;))

but: i read max power, main when im bored, but i read it none the less, thankfully i dont think saxo's are the fastes cars in the world, i have the slightly blinkered view that mine is :D, i have neon washer jets (im not the only one on here.......:p), when i joined my now ex GF was in fact at school (your all just gelious!;)), i rarely wear a BBC, but i qualify for three though.......

I believe all people should be allowed to join - but on the understanding that offensive behaviour will not be tolerated.

Free speech makes this board what it is, but there is a distinct difference between sharing your opinions, and outright offensive behaviour.

What would be next if be bar cartain 'types' of people? Would we bar all those with Red cars? It sounds a bit like bigotry to me.

Hypothetically, we should not judge anyone. I'm sure we all have done things we're not proud of... I'll freely admit to liking neon's before I knew any better! ;)

Hence, I argue that everyone should be allowed to join us, and those who cause offence or trouble should be removed. Those who have their own opinions and can discuss them sensibly should have the same right to speak as everyone else.

Paul_S13
24-06-2003, 09:59
Well maybe we should allow these boy racer types in, its our chance to convert them and show them the error of their ways. :D

I think if we start to have criteria to join up then its against the nature of the SXOC, I have been on the board back when there was only 20-odd members and its always been friendly and helpful, granted we have had the odd nobber but they have been dealt with fairly quickly and it does make for some entertaining reading. :)

Just my opinion.

I think it's certainly worth putting an acceptable usage policy up. Whilst I personally would love to screen everybody, thats just not going to happen. But I think if we put a usage policy up and made sure it was read by all registering members then we would have more leverage when it comes to "disiplining" some of the more wayward posters.

this thread smells of the old british favourite pastime of class mistrust and hate represented through peoples choice in cars.
Just as u stereotype the post working class BBC krew, u've also gotta realise that you become a walking talking stereotype of a 'young-professional'.........which suits the demiographic marketing types who control what we do even more so
I want to be more than just an image and a stereotype!!

It all comes down to a persons personallity, not the car they drive. I used to have a really bad view of saxo drivers and the like, but some of them are actually normal human beeings :D

Some people just have no idea how to hold an adult convo, like mr cocksh@ft or whatever his name was :D who just attacks people as he has no way of having a sensible discussion (he thick!)

The only way to deal with these people is warn em then ban em if they dont take note, if we screened everyone the mods would get bored, they would have nothing to do :D

most people who join have been lurking for a while anyway so they know what the BB is about. those that join generally have the same attitude and intrests as the rest of us, if you dont like the ethos of the bb and you dont feel you'll fit in you dont join. I dont care what magazines people read and I dont feel scrutinising someones personal tastes is justified as to wether they join. Im not into neons and stuff but thats my choise I just dont buy them, I know peoples tastes are differnt to mine but that the kind of diversaty we need. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that jaz.

Hmmm.

How about some kind of 'club aims / policies / accepted behaviour'
page on the front of the website?

Don't be vicious, but word is sensibly:

This club does not condone breaching of road traffic or public nuicence laws in built up areas. We do not condone recklessly endagering the public, driving under the influence, or other childishly selfish driving activities.

This club is predominantly of interest to those with stock Nissan 200sx's and with a high level of interest in mechanics and true performance tuning.

The club has a wealth of mechanical experience with the Nissan 200sx. We are not experts in the installation of high wattage in car entertainment systems or off-the-shelf generic 'performance' products. Those interested in these technical areas may be disappointed with the club.

This forum is visited primarily utilised by mature readers with an interest in rear wheel drive performance motoring. Subjects on the forum should geberally reflect this.

a certain level of politeness is expected from forum users. Those repeatedly unable to use the correct forum, who act rudely, start or overly participate in 'flame wars' or who utilise the English language in a style that would have their English teacher turning in the grave may be berated or asked to leave the forum. We do not read or speak in 'txt' or '1337' and would ask new forum members to refrain from such. 'Wasssuuup homies' is not in the dictionary. If you are uncertain, please use a spellchecker for the sake of our sanity.

No 'cruises' or streetracing is organised or advertised on this site.

Local club meets are quiet evenings in the pub (sans alchohol!) discussing technical matters. These are NOT 'cruises' or 'races' or similar. [Unless we fancy it :D ]

The site occassionally organises for it's members or participates in off-road performance trials. We do not condone such driving on public roads. Members attending these events are asked to act with courtesy at the event and towards the local residence when travelling to/from the event. Those acting outside the scope of the event will be asked to leave [Unless we really like it! :D ]

Any member seen to be bringing the club into disrupute via the manner of his driving and general taste [ ;) ] may be asked to remove all club affiliation stickering from his/her vehicle.

Again, the club wishes to distance itself from reckless and annoying car-based activities. The members of this club are predominantly of a mature age and many have wife's and kids to go home to.

I wear a bbc sometimes, drive 'spiritedly' sometimes to impress, rent a flat, don't look at school girls cos I'm 29 and shouldn't be interested in children:p

Since it's an owners club we could ask everyone for there registration and home address, if it doesn't match then they can't join:rolleyes:

or..

Allow anyone to join. There are a lot of people on here that can spot a timewaster, when it's indicated to the mods they can deal with it appropriately:thumbs:

Chassis number and reg could be a registration requirement.

I can check reg numbers against chassis numbers here with nissan, if they dont match you cant join.

If you are a prospective buyer you must state so and then the application will be approved or not on the basis of a mods decision.

Wow thats exactly what I wanted to say but you said it like I never could.

PLEASE don't get this mixed up I am not looking to filter membership AT ALL. I never said that in my posts. We have had a couple of instances tho now which bring the tone of the club down.

Driver instructor man and his letters and cockstar and a general rash of slightly more aggressive threads. I think an acceptable use policy allows a club to distance itself from a rogue member should they go overboard :)

On the scale of things this BB has very little problems.

In another life I am an archer (The sporting kind, not the ale drinking, tight wearing, beard owning, weirdo running round the forest like robin hood), look at the avatar. There are BBs devoted to the sport of archery too, but with some very malicious members who post with complete anonymity, which cause the normal (often valued) contributors to leave...

This board is graced with many fine upstanding members of the community, and Ant:D, with opinions and knowledge that is backed up by experience and maturity. There is a very small minority who do spoil things, but they do get quickly knocked down or simply ignored, trolls do get bored quickly if they are ignored...

Stick with this winning formula and see the success of the club continue to grow... (reminds me I must send in my check for the club membership:thumbs: )

Corr... lots of oppinions in here really, so i guess it makes the thread mixe oppinion.

I think people just wanna get along, regardless of the sterotypes that come along with readin max power etc. I mean I get em with the off-chance theres a mention of drifting or an SX in there, and if not then something else jap... i mean i need something to compare my figures to! (and sometime laugh about)

Admittedly I flick past all the saxos etc. but there was a meaty 350brake race nova in there, that looked shite, he spent 30 grand on it, but it went like shite of a you know what... which is interesting to know how he did it. Yes its a nova, but it als has balls so in my oppinion deserves a bit of respect... \fterall its the all show and no go that piss most people off

Its the same with the jap mag though, i dont always like what i see in there, and think theres far too many scoobies for my liking, but its m personal pet hate, others may love reading about the same car with different engines...

So to sum up, if your into cars, your polite, and dont offend too much then your welcome here, otherwise you'll get a hard time and leave anyway... (or if your an idiot, get banned  )

That may need rephrasing :)

Ok, it might be a bit harsh in places, and can do with editing down, but I think distancing ourselves from 'cruising' and driving like pillocks is in no way a bad thing. It's likely to encourage more of the members we're interested in.

Ok, people might take the rise out of Pete for 'max power' ways, but to be fair he's a saint compared to most 'cruisers'. If the presence of frankly such a 'mild' cruiser causes the offence that it has in the past, then a couple of typical 'cruzerz' would destroy the board.

Likewise, I'm not keen on buying a copy of a local paper one day to see a picture of the back of a 200SX ploughed into a crossing bollard at Great Yarmouth, with a dead kid as the headline, and a SXOC sticker in the rear window.

Subjects on the forum should { geberally }reflect this.

a certain level of politeness is expected from forum users.

How's that?!

Sounds good to me! but i'm afraid i'v been pissing myself laughing with the image that this brings!!! WTF is "gerberally"!!!! LOL  :p :p :D :D :D

I know im not a 200 driver but im going out with one (smiffad) so i use this forum to meet his buddies.

as you can see from my link i drive a modded pug and even have a sunstrip. I admit it is 'all show and no go' but im proud of her.

I am a proffesional working for Dorset Police in intelligence and disclosure so I think its tricky putting people into categories. I agree that 'cruisers' can be idiots but i hope im not classed as one , even though im called a 'girl racer'.......

This site is one of the better ones i've been on and hope that it doesnt end up becoming too boring and narrow minded.

sorry had to say my bit hope no one hates me for working for the cops!!??

It will never be a boring stuffy place here, theres to many nut cases for that to happen.
No one will hate you for working with the police, my sis in law works in London as a forensic scientist for the police so I know you lot can be normal people ;) its the 18 year old in the panda car trying needlesly to assert his authority that gets peoples back up. plus there's two other copper's on the board anyway.

Nah, I don't think there's any need to put a 'terms and conditions' up on the front page. All I ask is that people act maturely and type using clear, correct English. Anything else is fair game. Including throwing midget chairmen into lakes :D

Not at all. I've been thinking for a while now that we should have a special Cops section of the board. A quiet little section where you can hold your lazer guns, out in the sun under the shade of a tree, on a long (slightly downhill) section of Dual Carriageway with no junctions for miles and perfectly clear visibility, where you could all exchange tails of catching wicked evil criminal speeders doing 71mph.

Maybe we would all get along better that way ?

very very very very very well said...

Personally I'm going to be looking for an RS-X to hack up.

Wonder if Cockstar knows about this (http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99273.htm) ;)

You mean the same cockstar that thought it was cool to have a gun waved at him, its not so cool when it goes off! like my sis in law getting shot in the chest today cos of idiots like him. good job she had body armour on or it would have been a bit more drastic than shock and the afternoon in A&E, ****er!

Great thread :D

I was planning my reply as I was reading it, I was about to say don't exclude Max Power types as long as they are polite they'll realise the error of their ways and I was going to hold Pete up as an example of this because I think he's been better lately.

Then Pete goes and spoils it on the very next page I read

I dont see how ive spoiled it...

Everyone loves a pair of breasts, dont deny it (yes you dont just like meeting regularly with men... do you??) So if you cant take a light hearted comment...

Unless those being touchy ARE homosexual?

As I say, I wouldnt know, I dont know you, or you me, so keep the personal insults out of it.

S'only a web board:thumbs:

i do agree with what you're trying(badly) to say pete, some people do get upset very easily on this board, but with the stuff you've been saying especially towards the anti-maxpower/scrabble army, you're asking for it arent ya????? ;)

Here we go again. A new day and the chance to let things lie totally passes you by. This board is viewed by both sexes and by people of all ages so your crude comments about breasts were innappropriate at best.

Now you say that anyone who doesn't agree with you is homosexual

You are a plonker, you really are. Let it lie now, move on to something else before you make things even worse for yourself.

Pete, you haven't spoiled the board, I was saying I had modified my opinion of you lately because you seemed to have calmed down a bit and that's what you spoiled when I read the breast comments (amongst others on this thread). The way you spoke to that girl made me cringe.

So I didn't insult you, I was giving you backhanded compliment.

As for being gay........well give me a kiss and I'll tell you ;) :D

There's an obvious comment to be made here, but I think I'll count to 1000000000000000 instead.
