Is there anyone going to the weekender who would be willing to pick up a diff for me, or know of anyone local who has a good one for sale?

I can't make it:cry: and with work etc travelling to collect one is making it a bit of a nightmare:whip:

Also after some other bits as I listed in Davus200's 'Anyone breaking a S14/a around here' for an S14a:

Door cards (preferably cream leather)
Grill (any old colour but would prefer black)
Stereo console plastics (with stereo cage)
will probably want some other bits as I rebuild it and find out what I need,
and obviously a diff as mentioned.

Will have some bits to sell / swap which I'll put up to the South West lot first but not until I get it sorted.

Cheers
Nosmo

You might be better off posting in the West Country section :)

Check the breakers section as I'm sure their is a 14a getting broken in bristol  I think the only guys going to the weekender are from plymouth so a fair trip for you to collect.. As clouder said their are a few from the westcountry section going iirc :)

Let us know if you have anything interesting up for grabs ;)

Yep either me, crouchy, scougar, cornwall or deacon should be able to sort something as long as you arrange for it to turn up at the weekender

Cheers guys,

Thought I'd check before replying to Daz for the one he has in the for sale ad.

Just got a PM from a Guy pretty close by so will get the details first as that would save others the hassle.

Try to avoid going to Bristol if possible:D

Bits coming up will probably be:

Rear cage with padding.
FIA Motordrive Bucket Seats on OMP rails with FIA harnesses (wide) but out of date on the FIA as they only last a couple of years - but in good nick.
Cusco MZ 2 Way diff
Fire extinguisher with nozzles and pull cords
Engine cut-out switches
4 x 18" compomotive alloys (poss with 2 good tyres)
4 x 17" Rota Alloys with brand new tyres

Would have liked to keep some of them but reckon the cash will be needed:cry:

I might know someone after a cage (not me) can pass on the details if you like

Chris - Cheers but as I'm not ready to sell it might be better to wait as not to disappoint as it might take me ages to to around to sorting it!

Scougar - Cheers, if it's a hassle don't worry too much about it, I'm not ready for one at the moment anyway, it was more just if the opportunity arose, I'm not looking to put anyone out, just noticed Daz had one for sale and stated he could take it to the weekender (as he's in Essex or somewhere equally way to far away)!

If you get a diff mate get the half shafts as well as Gary when he fitted it into that casing ended up using an auto's half shafts. I'm guessing because it was an auto's casing he put it into.

So you might need matching shafts from whatever you get the std job from to ensure everything fits.

Cheers - I assumed it was still running the standard shafts!

Will bear that in mind with my enquiry - aren't the shafts the same then - as loads of people swap from manual to auto diffs?

Having a great time sorting out the lights finding odd chopper wires tucked away etc, so hoping the battery can go back on tonight so I can get power to stuff to test them all:confused:

As you interested in the diff would you want to do a deal on the harnesses??

Would do, but not 100% sure I'm getting rid of them yet, and couldn't till I've got the other bits in, ideally I won't get rid of them but I think the finances are gonna force me that way!

Don't want to be in a position of selling them then needing to buy some more!

No idea nos but I remember Gary ringing me to say he would be delayed when he was putting it in due to needing to source half shafts I think because of the casing. But this was 7 years ago mate :wack: I'm lucky if I can re-call last week  still think you should try it first before ditching it, you'll like it ;)

Also might be interested in your 2 way

lol get it sorted lads, then we know whether to come grab it or not :wack:

Channie, when are you NOT interested in 2 way?

As soon as I know what I'm doing() I'll post up in the SW section first.

Can't see it being before the weekender though as I only get about an hour a night working on it at the moment!

Changed 2 14a's from manual to auto diffs and not needed the shafts :) although I do believe there are 2 types of shaft so they might be on S14's

Thats fair enough.

Just let me know before hand what you want to do as I don't mind bringing the diff along

Mark - Cheers for the input!

Does anyone know if there is anything I can check on the shafts before I buy a diff and then need to either change it or the shafts?

Daz - I'll try to remember, I thought I'd check if it wasn't too much hassle for someone to collect it before I bothered you about bringing it along (and building up your hopes).

I can't see how the shafts will be different for the S14 and S14a to be honest.

No worries, just don't ask me to take it then change you mind when I leave lol. It's bloody heavy so don't want to move it if I don't need to, although I think Mark's rent charges on it are going through the roof for me lol.

I remember reading on here somewhere that the S14 and S14a shafts are indeed different, it will need a bunch of searching to find out specifics though and I need to do work, if anybody is bored I am sure the truth is out there!

Mark

Its the bolt pattern IIRC. The 14a ones are 3 pairs of bolts spaced 120 degrees apart.

See here

http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=390802

3x2 or 5 seperate bolts. The latter seems to be an issue if fitting skyline diffs

You don't want to put a rollcage in your 14a, surely?! Gives Etienne something to hold on to though I suppose. :wack:

Evilchap - cheers for highlighting that:thumbs:

Mark - thanks for the link:thumbs:

I'll go and have a crawl under the car tomorow and see what the bolt pattern is on the flanges!

Yup! Something to hang his toys from too :wack:

Actually it was Bex's suggestion after seeing a driver walk away from a nasty motorsport-related crash. I've spoken to my insurance company and was pleasantly surprised when they said "Nope, the only thing that we'll charge you extra for is more power! Any body mods, bigger brakes, rollcage etc just let them know about them but it won't put my premium up!!"

Happy me --> :D

I asked A-Plan about mods and what I should avoid and the big thing was don't fit a roll cage. Weird how different insurance companies can be.

Teggers

Weird indeed! I can go bigger brakes (planned) wide arches (maybe) pretty much anything else but more power!

Shame I want more power more than any other mods really...

Roll-cage is that way because alledgely it makes the driver think they are more protected so likely to take more risks.

Teggers - Who is that with?

Teggers
02-07-2010, 15:43
Adrian Flux. Again. No-one else got near their best offer. Been with them for 6 years, each year I give others the chance to match sometimes some come close but Flux always hit back with a better one. And, tbh, I'm lazy so don't really enjoy phoning round every year. I'm happy with how much I pay (bet its less than most on here) so if they keep it at that level I'm  with it. They did a good deal for my other halfs L200 too and offered to cover a second car (~ stage 2 PS13) for slightly less than I pay on the current 14a if its on a limited miles policy.

I know a lot of people slate them, I've not always had the best service (they tend to 'lose' my docs every year) but price and cover-wise, I can't fault them.

My thoughts exactly. I've never heard of an insurance company not increasing a policy premium as a result of installing a full cage.

They didn't increase mine when that car was on the road either nosmo and I was with flux with the cage.
