I've used a CB's for years in convoys and on long journey's and they piddle on walkies range wise. Longest I've had in the UK is 8 miles!
Up here in banjo-land they are still used quite a bit.
Not digging those small antennas though :smash: Anyone using a small mast and not a 1.2m+ whip flailing around on the boot lid is just not getting into the spirit of the whole "yee-hah, 10-4 good buddy"-ness of the 'Dukes' stylee kitsch. :whip:
Mine is used so much it got hard wired in to the SX pretty sharpish :D

Don't skimp on mag mounts though. I once lost a crap mag mount off the roof of my Mini and did a crap load of damage and even took a tyre valve off! :(
The antenna supplied with that kit is a 1.55m whip :D

I only saw the 0.89 Mini orbiter....1.55m FTW - Mine hasn't got the spring section as they smack the roof when you open the boot
Just fitted this to the Disco

Its 80 channel so will work in Europe
do people still use these socially? is it still a big scene. used to fasten the whip in a biscuit tin and shove it in the loft for use in the house.

i used to have one of these yrs ago on one of my old cars going to rally's and things...
Lol, now that would be cool.
We got ourselves a convoy big buddy!!!
Might see if I can find a pair of them off eBay for our charity run to the Nurburgring... Was going to get walkie-talkies, but these might be cheaper and funnier...

Not 'massive' socially but there are quite a few local characters that have genuinely hillarious conversations round here. There's enough users in East Durham (All the Quarry trucks are fitted with them) that you can find out whats going on the roads pretty quick. The only downer is when you have some eejits jamming the channels by transmitting Happy Hardcore :annoyed: :whip:

I had a EM-27 Maycom in my car for years, fully opened up to bands, only problem was i had to have a whip and a fiberglass firerod.
I still have a Amtron 99 on the side of my house :D
its worth it just to come up with some inane drivel that no one really knows what it means but it sounds cool, untill some one say "you what?"
10-4 on the smokey, the bear is in the biscuit tin and the cat is hiding his nuts, i think its time we broke the snakes back and empty the tanks on them. what you say dogger? (dogger is Algies call sign)
Chaine would be Brokeback (stolen i know)
Daz would be iPhone or Job's Sucker
Mark would be Hitler
Vez Umpla-Lumpa

I use these guys.... http://www.birtleycbservices.com/ I get all my gear from them and had some repairs done by them too over the years.
They've been in business for decades and are really reasonably priced. You can get an 80ch UK/EU rig, heavy duty mount and an Orbiter antenna for under £90  I recommend the Danita 3000 rig and the Sirio antennas ;).
used to go to ixl in sheffield but they shut years ago. think maplins do them as well. trouble is, i cant hear the stereo on full in mine, so talking on a rig would be a no-no i think.

Just ask for one of these as an upgrade when ordering ;) http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/k40-microphone.html
EDIT: This company have cheap starter packs on Midlands:

Ahhh. This takes me back to the 90s - my rig had 40w wellies and the best I got was 30miles on Portsdown hill :)
Daily Mail, Daily Mail, you got your ears on? ;)
I used to be into CB when I was younger... Remember 'catching the skip' and talking to the people in the US and canada when the atmospherics were right :) Still got all my gear somewhere at my parents too..
I've got some PMR446 radios now I use for snowboarding and biking - if you get the right model you can whack the power right up on them too - the midland units can be upgraded to 4W output (from 500mw) by cutting a jump link inside the case :)
These would be handy for the weekender convoy's.
Wish I had one aswell.

I've always said to get CB's for convoys and Lemons, but no one would listen  (not to the LeMans lot on here as I didn't go this year :wack: )
they're much better than walkie talkie and most of all I can do my Rubber Duck/Bandit/Snow Man impression :D
Dear god I've fallen through a hole in time , is it ok now to own up to having owned a cb :wack:, Where did I put my dv27 and the mag mount
