View Full Version : 3 Atm?
My watch says:
Water Resistant 3 ATM what exactly does this mean?
I am lost!
3 atmospheres
1 atmosphere = 100 kPa = 100 kNm^2 = 14.5 PSI etc.
I'm not sure on my sums but I think it means it'll resist water to a depth of about 30m or so, which should be plenty ;)
But the thing they never mention is the fact that when you're swimming with the watch on, pushing your arm through the water at a depth of about 2m is prolly more than that anyhow

A prize to that man !
3 atm = 3 atmospheres = 20 meters underwater (not 30).
But - the rating on the watch is static not dynamic as Dave-S intimates. I might use a 3atm (20m) rated watch for doing the dishwashing, but only maybe !
If you want to go swimming use at least 50m rated = 6 atm.
And if you want to be picky
1 atm = 14.695 psi = 1.01325 bar
(so says my convert software)
I alwyas thought bar/atm were the same thing?
