View Full Version : Air pumps and caves for my fish tank...
Hey all.
Saw a tank the other day and it had an airblock across the back that really looked the part! My background isnt really that interesting just wondered if getting an airpump would be a good move?
And caves, ie manmade ones, any suggestions as to what to use etc, etc?
Edit: want to add a bit of height inside the tank too, its all a bit low level...any ideas?

I think I've got a little airpump and stone laying around in my shed. I'll try and dig it out if you want it? As for caves/rocks etc, your best bet would be to ask at your local fish shop and see what they recommend. There's some stuff that my local place has (the name escapes me right now). Its man made, but doesn't really look it.
Air pumps can be a good idea, especially in the summer. The bubbles themselves won't oxygenate the water but them disturbing the surface of the water will. As for making caves, a cut up coconut shell works well.
Cheers bahn, seems i'm always on the ponce! :wack::D
Saw this on the bay, thought it was natty, might have a go at making something a bit taller and more convoluted...

Havent had a coconut in ages, might have to pick one up on the way home tonight..:D
Ian, i have an air pump that i used to use, also got some flat slate pieces that make ideal cave roofs :D Its all getting boot saled on sunday so if you want anything then just shout
have to say a big thankyou to mark (mien fűrher) for sorting me out a load of slate, bogwood and an airpump. Tried the air pump but failed to get any decent results, so while i was buying some assassin snails, i bought a spraybar for my fluval 3+. Utterly confused the fish! Have made a load of hidey holes too now, so the loaches can sneak about...:D

ARGH! I totally forgot about this :annoyed: The stones that come with the pump give a column of bubbles rather than a curtain, but I think they're available cheap enough. PM me your address again and I'll stick it all in the post
Come on wheres the pics :D
I'll try and get pics this afternoon (little man allowing  :D).
I looked on ebay at the bubble screen thingys, look like a long black sausage?
I couldnt seem to get any air to pump into the blocks that mark gave me. The block was only about 7" submerged but the pump was on 3' of tube. not sure it had the balls to be fair. :D
Anyone built stuff using silicone to hold it together? what did you use? and is it available in B&Q/wickes?
Like I said those stones are well old so might be blocked. did you try it without the stones?
I would just get some new ones, it worked fine for me :) i used to bury the tube in the gravel and just have the stone protruding a little and stick a rock in front of it so you couldnt see it ;)
Actually, come to think of it i didnt! D'oh! Will give it a go!
I'm not overly smitten with this spray bay thingy, so i'll try again with a new stone.
Oh and the assassin snails...i bought 6...but 2 had moved out...:wack: still, got some pretty looking shells..:D
