Been so busy thelast few weeks I completely forgot it was on tbh,

Going to be a good battle into turn 1. I think even if Lewis can beat Webber in to the corner he wont be able to stay in front for the rest of the race. My prediction, Webber to win. Vetal to look even more petulant with a second or third. Lewis second or third as well, probably third. Jb to stay where he is.
Hopefully a good battle between Alonso and MS as he makes his way up the grid.

Loved Brundle's comment about Alonso as well:D

The only reason it's catching people out is because the RBR's are Man Footing it around :D Every one else is lifting off :)

Could be a good race tomorrow
The McLaren's are considerably quicker than the RB's on the straight.. If they are tucked up behind in 3rd/4th then there could be a bit of a ding dong happening at the end of the long straight.

Looking for ward to the start, be interesting to see what the pace of the McLarens is like compared to the RB's in the first few laps.

What tyres are they starting on?

I might have put 5 notes on Alonso finishing in the top 3 but i wouldn't expect to claim on it :D

If i was wanting to throw a few bob on i would say Button, Shumi and Rosberg for wins. Even if the Mercs aint really going to its going to be good odds :p

I have noticed that Hamilton is all over the kerbs like his Mrs is on them "ready and waiting" :wack: but the red bulls are just staying in the middle of the track, can see why the McLaren's are catching but then come turn 8 and the RBR Man Foot they leave them for dust.

Lets see if this rain comes and how much it changes things

I liked how Eddie Jordan was properly being put in his place this weekend - firstly by Christian Horner before quali yesterday and today being the only person that thought it wasn't clearly Vettel's fault

Great race to be honest. Seeing the top 4 drivers having to race for what might have been 40+ laps was fantastic. Shame Jensen couldn't make it stick, but fair play to Lewis for not giving up the position

Alonso can fcuk right off. Petrov was having a great race and Alonso ruined it for him. Yes, Alonso was faster, but that's no reason to ruin the other driver's race for him  .

Finally, why was Lewis so moody? No mad waving of the arms as he crossed the finish line and barely a smile on the platform

i dont think it was totally vettels fault, he was inside and had the front half of the car ahead of webber, there was still loads of track on webbers right hand side and webber could'v given him more room. cockpit view of webber also shows a tiny movement to the left, having never steered an f1 car i dont know how much that translates to on the road but i imagine it edged the car left a touch

Great race, very tense. I would love to be a fly of the wall in the Redbull and Mclaren garages. IMO JB race engineer maybe didn't emphasize the fuel issue as much as Lewis' did. So when he got a chance JB went for it and caught Lewis completely unawares. I could barely watch at that point.

You really think there was a fuel issue or they just wanted to stop the drivers getting too competitive with one another (having just seen the Red Bulls cock up)?

It was great driving from both Lewis and Jenson though!

According to tweets from Lee McKenzie, Webber was in the wrong, he was saving fuel hence Vettel being faster

Just interviewed Christian Horner who now feels Webber pushed Vettel onto dirty side and says Webber slow as saving fuel!

I think we've seen enough Schuey + A.N. Other told to "Watch tyres, watch brakes, save fuel" to know exactly what it means.

"You're winning by miles, stop racing each other and don't bo11ocks it up".

Think Hamilton was a bit annoyed that Button didn't hear the same message

Button has been quoted as saying he was told to save fuel from lap 20 onwards. It was only after the overtake (which I'm sure they'll make up about, even if they haven't already) was he told it was 'critical'. I guess Button could have saved a bit more as he dropped back for a while.

It was great seeing 4 cars within 3 seconds of each other.

I used to really like Vettel, he was happy, smiley and quick. Now he just seems to be in the 'idiot' growing phase. He's so Redbull's golden boy though. Which you can see by the quote..

Marko says Vettel was allowed to attack Webber because there was no option to back him off – as Lewis Hamilton was right behind the Red Bull Racing drivers.

"It wasn't a situation where we were racing each other," said Marko. "We were under enormous pressure from the McLarens – they were much faster on the straights so we had to gain our advantage in the corners.

"He had to attack otherwise he would have got overtaken by Hamilton – it would have been completely different if the McLarens were 10-seconds behind, but that wasn't the case."

Asked for his views on the accident, Marko reckons that Vettel was in the right to turn across the track, even with Webber there, since the German had got his nose ahead.

"He [Vettel] was already ahead, at least two metres ahead, and there was a corner to the left side coming, so he had to go for the line," he said. "He cannot brake on the dirt because for sure he knows what happens.

"But it was unnecessary the whole situation. We will talk with everybody quite clearly to make it not happen again."

Hamilton was 'there' but he wasn't right 'there'. Also just because you have 3/4 of your car in front doesn't mean you can just drive into the other car (though he did 'lose' the car on the bumps).

I don't see why Webber should have moved over any more than he did.

sxbaz
31-05-2010, 10:30
all this save fuel/tyres/back engine off stuff is a load of bullshit, so basically what theyre suggesting is the cars are fuelled and set up to run at a set pace and actually racing each other could cause them to run out of fuel, its so anti racing.

i think the mclarens had enough at the end and they didnt want lewis n jenson racing each other, but as theres no driver doing considerably better than the other, surely the best way to prove yourself is to overtake the guy in the same car as u. i dont think id just follow my team mate if i thought i was faster, the bosses must know this in reality too

Wow, like, wow, like it's soooo cool to be here isn't it, like, wow, like in Turkey. And I thought the only, like, Turkey was what we, like, have at Thanksgiving. 01-06-2010, 11:02
Im surprised to see everyone blaming Vettell for the incident, and saying webber should have given him more room?!?!?! there was barely a cars width there, thats why he was so skittish (you could see this before he swerved into the side of webber). They had already all commented on how the surface was bumpy due to a hard winter, and nobody had driven on that side of the track yet.

In my view Vettell caused the crash yes, but purely because it was him that temporarily lost control. The fact is that Webber should not have even put him in that position, maybe go defensive in the middle of the circuit but not go all the way over and actually put the squeeze on vettell, whats the point? Particularly when you are team mates. It would have been so easy just to dive back to the other side of the circuit as vettell had compromised his line so badly, then he would have had the drive out the corner up the inside and retaken the position. Webber is an idiot and is hot headed, i dont think hes even that good a driver (relatively speaking), i just wish people would stop ignoring his stupidity and its contribution towards the incident.

Cluck
01-06-2010, 11:27
It's called racing ;)

Webber was leading the grand prix and legitimately placed his car where he thought there was no room for somebody to dive up the inside. He didn't move over once Vettell had started his manoeuvre, so it was Seb taking a risk. Bravo I say for Seb trying to race (more of this please) but he took the risk and paid the price. What was Mark supposed to do? Move out of the way and yield his lead? Do me a favour  . If you were leading the grand prix (and had been for 99% of it thus far), would you honestly just give up the lead because somebody was taking a risk to get past you? Anybody that answers "yes" doesn't deserve to drive in F1 in all honesty

From what I've read, Seb had one more lap left at his faster pace before he also had to turn his engine down to conserve fuel (something Mark had already been told to do). There would certainly have been more opportunities in the coming lap to overtake - probably safer ones - but his impetuousness led him to perform this risks manoeuvre.

What has angered so many people, quite rightly IMHO, is that the public face of Red Bull has come out in support of Seb and blamed Mark for the whole thing :indiff:

No he wasnt but these days drivers will take an opportunity like this, he was more than half way past webber so at this point as i said webber could have swung back onto the racing line, had better track position and got straight back past.

Did you ever think that maybe red bull are supporting seb because they understand racing better than some armchair expert?? Webber is not a good driver in these situations, just look at the australian grand prix where he took out hamilton diving up the inside in a gap that wasnt there and braking about 3 car lengths late, for the second time that race!!! Hes an idiot and hes hot headed, i think the reason he didnt move over was because he was so pissed off vettell was getting past him that he didnt think to just adjust to get back past. And it wasnt just seb that was quicker for that one last lap, webber had been holding them all up for the whole race.

Last race it was Shumi - alonso and the case of the funny green lights, this time its Vettel - Webber and the case of the monged team orders.

The following "armchair experts" disagree with you;

Lewis Hamilton says Vettel
Nico Rosberg says Vettel
David Coultard says Vettel
Anthony Davidson says Vettel
Alexander Wurz says Vettel
Paddy Lowe says Vettel

Half way past is considered alongside and not past. This incident is the same Jaime Algerwhatits chop that took Chandhok out and Vettel is lucky he's not been penalised. Regardless of Webbers record he defended his line and gave Vettel the option of;

1) Pulling out of the over take
2) Breaking late on the marbles (would have run off and possibly lost 2nd to LH)
3) Try and bully Webber

Unfortuantely he took 3 and it cost him.

The only support for Vettel is Helmut Marko, the RB young driver programme head, who has to justify all the millions he spent on Vettel and happens to be good friends with RB owner. Christian Horner who's answerable to the RB owner (who listens to Marko) and Eddie Jordan.

If you're in the lead you're not "holding people up" your leading, if the cars behind you are faster and can't get past then you're doing a good job. The real issue for the sport here is that RB tried to fix the result for Vettel. The policy in RB is that last run in qualifying is supposed to alternate, Vettel got it last time, so Webber should have got it. Insted Vettel got it. In the race the lead driver should get first stop, Webber was P1 but Vettel got it.

Agree 100% with this.

There was no way Webber should yield his position, teammate or otherwise. Vettel was never going to get himself slowed down enough to maintain that inside line and pull off the pass unless Mark moved to the right. He tried to bully Webber and got it wrong.

I'm by no means Webber's biggest fan but I find the lack of support for a championship leading driver absolutely shocking TBH.

There was a big fuss a couple of weeks ago in MotoGP because one of the fuel sensors was playing up on Pedrosa's bike and (unnecessarily) robbing him of power over the last 5 laps and Rossi's bike ran out of fuel on the cooldown lap...so they obviously have self-adjusting fuel maps that make sure the bikes run to the end of the race.

I think its because having cars running faster/slower during parts of the race would cause overtaking, and let's face it, nobody wants to see that in F1. :wack:

removing the tons of monitors and telemety would save money and stop this "save fuel (dont race each other)" nonsense, wasnt lewis told to maintain position/ save the car less than 1/2 way through monaco, even he asked "am i supposed to race" if the team cant see every element of the car and adjust it from the pits it puts the racing back in control of the drivers imo

i understand the technology filters down to production cars to some degree and it'll never go but i still think races are a procession, this GP was entertaining but in reality it was a lot of close following with only a handful of overtaking moves.

What's the point in making the car lighter with less fuel if they can't go at full race pace surely they can go quicker with more fuel at full speed.

I think they should bring back refueling I liked seeing the drivers rip out the fuel hose lol and when raikkonen got cover in fuel and set on fire, that was some good television.

Yer me to  All this 'putting the right amount of fuel in to the last ml' is stopping some of the racing. It seems most stratagies are hammer it into the first bend and then maintain that position for the whole race
