hey guys,
im rebuilding my spare engine and at the same time im stroking using an apex 2.2 stroker kit. im having liners custom made, pressed in and machined out to 87mm to suit my 87mm pistons.
i have bought a coswoth head gasket but iv noticed the head gasket bore is 87mm.

could i get away with running the gasket the same diameter as the bore or will i have to source a gasket with an 87.5mm+ bore?

I'm running a 1.6 mm cometic from apex with a 87mm bore. Done 5000 miles now so must be ok. I'm not sure what the bore size was on the gasket though. Maybe ask Bren

I got 87mm with 1.5mm thickness cosworth gasket, but not sure what size my bore is. I have forged JE's if that helps.

dave if your engine just had a basic refresh then its very likely your JE's will be standard 86mm or a 0.5mm oversize.

red, i had a look on the cometic website and there doesn't seem to be loads of info but from what i can see there seems to be 2x bore options. 1 is 87.5mm and the other 88.5mm.

I never asked for anything special. Just "can I get a cometic gasket plz". Lol

I'll find out what bore size I have, but im sure you'd want as close as you can get without the gasket hanging over the bore edge. i.e. if you are 86mm bore, you'd ideally have an 86mm gasket.

id really appreciate that man!
yeah thats kinda what i was thinking but i just have fears of the gasket squishing and protruding into the cylinder once the head is torqued up whereas on the other hand i want as tight a seal as possible.

mabie im just overlooking things too much.

You can see a picture of my gasket laid on in my project thread. Looks quite tight

Yea I know what your thinking, but I dont think the fire ring will do hat your thinking I doubt it would squish down and inward as its basically a ring folded back on itself, it would just make a tight seal.

youll be fine.. the gasket cant squish "into" the hole.

it will be fine:nod:, just on another note with the apex 2.2 kit there are no spacers for the oil squirter's you need to make them or find washers that fit. if you dont the squirter's will get cut off:cry:

why does the squirters need spacers and do you know what thinkness of spacer i need.is this an issue with all stroker kits.
I appreciate you telling me this since my brothers also got an apex 2.2 stroker but his engine is almost built.

about 2mm, when u are turning the engine over the piston just makes contact with the squirter, the longer stroke will let the piston go down further so it needs to be checked with all stroker kits, i just built an apex 2.2 and it needed them, this one (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=5313580&postcount=29) and it made good power:thumbs:
