View Full Version : Anyone handy with a welder

While attempting to fit my spats I noticed a small rust bubble which I attacked with a scraper. Turn out I have a bloody great hole at the base of the rear wheel arch.

Is anyone able to give me a hand fabricating and welding a plate in? I'd normally get my dad to do it but he's not too well at the moment:(

I'll upload some pics in a min.

Have a REALLY good dig round there whilst your at it - check out my project thread for exactly the same issues pretty much, I found a fair amount. Worth sticking a screwdriver in and seeing what is still solid.

The base of the wing and the upright section in the first pic, and the upright section in the second pic if it's needed.

Will be offering beer tokens to anyone that can help :)

The area is pretty good now. Some more metal may need cuting out but not a lot from what I can see. I've had a pretty good dig around and got the rust proofing off until I found good metal. It seems as if it's only one section thats gone on each side. It's prob due to the car having mudflaps on from new :(

Fair point :D My old man is teaching me how to arc weld first tho which is obviously useless on these cars. Mig will be the second lesson I guess:) He's half tempted to buy a tig also so I might end up giving that a go also...

Will have a look:nod: The sills themselves had a little surface rust where the skirts were mounted but are ok besides that. Next time I work under the car I'll have a dig around and see what other horror storys I find
