View Full Version : Birds of Prey - Photos
As some of you know I occasionally like to wave a camera around, yesterday I pointed it some of our feathered friends.
I'll start with some of our indigenous species
Peregrine Falcon

Tawny Owl

Not a great shot but worth including, a Red Kite has to defend against a protective Kestrel parent

Now for some non indigenous
Great Grey Owl

Bald Eagle

And just for the cute factor a couple of baby Owls

Nice shots. How's the 5D mark 2 compare to the 1Dmk3 you have?
I notice you've set negative exposure bias, was this to stop highlight's appearing on the white feathers?
Stunning photographs!
Owls are such great looking things. :smitten:

The 5D2 makes the 1D3 look positively low res!! But it is a lot slower to focus.
I pretty much always shoot 1/3rd stop down for exactly that reason.

ridiculously good pics nice job Juz!! wish i had skills like that
Great pics as always dude! Will show this to my other half later - she loves your pics too and is into her cameras (but can't afford any more at the mo!!)
Great one of the Kite
That one of the Milky Eagle Owl, is amazing, got a bigger res for my background? If that is possible
The real question is.....
Where was your one-stop owl shop? :wack:
Youve just popped down to eagle heights and took a few quality snaps of a few demonstrations! We had a great grey owl land on a neighbour window ledge was about a metre tall!!

If you've ever been to a demonstration then you'd realise how difficult it is to get a good shot.
Cracking Shots Juz as always mate.
Loving the Owl taking a nose dive more than anything.
What lens are these with?
Im not doubting the quality. Even better if these were wild
Er yeah it's not easy.
This is the best I managed at a zoo once, it flies so fast the focus can only just about hack it

I didn't manage to get a photo of the Peregrine Falcon as they are way too fast to follow for my talent level.
*EDIT*
Juz and 30PSI, do you both have Flickr accounts?

Most of the portrait shots were taken with my 5D MkII and 135L f/2
Most of the in flight shots were taken with my 1D MkIII and 70-200L f/2.8
