Track Day Smarts Take The Brunt

here are some cars that have 'track day' written all over them, and there are those that don't. The recently launched Smart Roadster might fall into the former category - but the company's humble City Coupé quite clearly doesn't. Still, that hasn't prevented www.thesmartclub.co.uk from organising a speed event at the Bruntingthorpe airfield in Leicestershire, where full circuit lapping, handling, ABS testing and tutored laps are all on offer.

Al Young, chairman and founder of the group, said it has more than 12,000 members worldwide, including nearly 70 per cent of UK owners. "This is our third track day, and will be the first to feature the Roadster," he added. "The idea is to give owners a chance to scoot round a circuit, and show that you can have some serious fun in a Smart."

PSML :D :D

Why not get a Smart car convert it to RWD, put your 200SX engine in the back and tub it out for good measure! (may need some wheelie bars though  )

Incidently, if you rr with 263.3bhp at the fly (assuming that's what your figure is), what did you get at the wheels? Do most people work out fly estimates on a 20% transmission loss?

Yeah it is at the fly, errm, I can't remember what the wheel figure was, I think it was about 210-220. but I'm not sure. I'm getting my AFC set up at SCA in a couple of weeks, so I'll post the figures then :)

Who decided you are getting a 30% transmission loss though (in a rear wheel drive car, 30%?)

256bhp@fly, 205bhp@wheels, 51bhp transmission loss (19.9%). Sounds about right to me, pretty good for a whining, rumbling old 'box :)

And Smart Car track day, PMSL, what will they think of next

That was just a guess mate, I really don't have a clue what the at wheel figure is, like I say, when I get my AFC done I'll post it up :)

If you brake hard enough in a Smart it will roll over.. It´s like one of those toys which come back to their feet after rolling forwards. :D Next they will be organising track days for A Mercs.. Until they remember what happened in the test situation.. :D

I think that some one should go there with a camcorder and record all the action and then post it on here:D

I mean seriously, "trackday" and "smart car" shouldn't be used in the same scentence :(

 LOL  in equal measure.

They are fun little cars, but can't imagine them on a track. Unless it is a mini track, a bit like the frozen veg section in my local supermarket - now that would be fun :) :) :)

Maybe they should do a remake of the Italian Job in supermarkets...

Anyone else see the article in Evo on the Brabus Smart? Equipped with a 700cc turbo producing, oooh, 80bhp, and costing £14k.

Riiiiiight....
