Jesus Christ! My lunch is on the way back up now

So did this guy just sit around photographing his hand as it disintegrated in front of him or what? Is there no antivenom?

andyf

I don't know

What's a brown recluse? Is that the name of a type of spider or just a random filename :|

and also

The spider's venom contains an enzyme that destroys cell membranes in the wound area with affected tissue gradually sloughing away, exposing underlying tissues. Within 24 hours, the bite site can erupt into a "volcano lesion" (a hole in the flesh due to damaged, gangrenous tissue).

The open wound may range from the size of an adult's thumbnail to the span of a hand. The sunken, ulcerating sore may heal slowly up to 6 to 8 weeks. Full recovery may take several months and scarring may remain. Plastic surgery and skin grafts are sometimes required.

BanjoMaster

Yeah it's the name of the spider.

Note to Andy: Arachnophobics probably shouldn't go looking for pictures of monster spider bites on the internet at lunchtime...

Living here definitely has it's upsides

I remember seeing this now. Watched a program on it. This woman got bitten on the finger and it became gangrenous, so they chopped off that bit of the finger. Then gangrene appeared further up the finger and again they cut it off. This happened about three more times until they tried applying electricity to the wound. Now she has to zap herself with a taser every so often to stop the gangrene reappearing. Now that's harsh!

Brown Recluse, nasty little bugger.

There is a woman who got bitten by one of those, who is still getting treatment 3 years later.

Apparently she has to have pure oxygen treatment otherwise, necrosis will kick in.

Believe me... the southwest US is known for brown recluses, rattlesnakes, copperheads, water mochasins (sp), and black widows.

A friend was bit by a recluse and the doctors said it can get pretty bad, fortunatly the toxin didn't spread too far and only a nasty sore appeared, not gangrenous.
