cant give tips over forums.. you need to find some guys who can skate to teach you! something you need to see and be given pointers on in the flesh!

I was a pro ish well I think it's refered to as sponsored amateur but won loads of competitions and me and my mate both got adio and element deals but I had a real serious injury forcing me to quit! I still have a little play every now and then!
My best tip would be walk before you can run learn balance first a good skateboard will be difficult to push without wobbling and falling if you cant balance on it so spend a while just cruising round on it, then work on ollies from that kick flips and heel flips and so on! It's all about foot position the further back you can have your front foot when ollieing the higher you can pop it then kick it straight!

ive got some friends that skate but they all live in mersea and its not easy to always get there, ive got a pretty decent setup i think:confused: its a unabomber deck and wheels with tensor trucks, i got it from rollersnakes. my balance is ok and i can stay on if im rolling, its the getting rolling and keeping the movement going that im finding difficult

Which foot are goofy or normal?
I had my left foot toes pointing to the nose dead centre of the deck just behind the truck screws, push off with my right foot! Also keeping momentum up once you get a roll going wind your legs in other words lean to the left then right you'll feel the speed build similar to swinging on a swing. If it's nothing to do with your technique it may be your set up hard wheels are for wooden ramp not street a softer compound is best for street and also spacers between the deck and trucks help, I believe rollersnakes used to sell speed cream( I used to buy my wax etc there) speed cream is good for freeing up your bearings, and also check what APEC your bearings are the number will be on them apec9 was a good speed for me but I mainly skated vert

well im skating goofy (i snowboard the same) how do you tell how hard the wheels are? i think my bearings are apec 7s what difference do the spacers between the trucks and the deck make?

takes the roughness out gives a little play between truck and deck i snapped about 7 tails off my boards when i wasnt using spacers
as for the wheels i just felt them if i was in a shop tap them listen to how brittle they sound, or if your mail order just ask them for a street wheel soft compound
my set up is BAM element deck, destructo BAM trucks, element BAM wheels, toy machine spacers, apec 9 element bearings id never seen them before so had to have them and i had a man crush on bam margera at the time so i had full signed bam series set up

Don't worry a crap about learning any tricks right now.

Find some mellow hills and go bomb them.Have fun.
Learn to cruise and carve. You'll feel the same stuff from snozboarding. Then once you've got a bit of confidence learn how to do little slides to check your speed.
Trick will come a lot easier once you've got basic board control.

Like I say have fun!!

I used to skate a bit when I was younger but only longboard these days! I only really enjoyed the going for a skate aspect of it so longboarding was really a natural progression ..... plus, as a surfer, when there's no swell Longboarding is the next best thing

Used to ride only Enjoi decks, tensor trucks, whatever wheels took my fancy and bones swiss bearings!

Little tip; If you're only starting off I wouldnt waste my money buying brand name decks. Just go into to your local skate shop and get a decent blank deck, then spend the money on the important stuff i.e. trucks, bearing, and wheels(to a lessor extent). You're going end up snapping ridiculous amounts of decks anyway :D

bones swiss bearings are the nuts but pricey
i used to use tensor trucks for ages till i got my first destructo set never broke a single set of destructo i went through a few tensor trucks

i do dissagree with the cheap deck thing though i think the best deck you can get is the best idea the pop in a good deck helps you to ollie the cheap stuff isnt as easy to use.
i started with £15 skateboards from argos then got the slightly more expensive argos special range you sa boards then birdhouse (mainly hawk stuff as i prefer vert) then got offered free boards from element and just loved the stiffness and pop in the deck although there not ideal for vert there ace for street:thumbs:

I used to board YEARS ago, a little to unfit for it now. I was actually much better (IMHO) on skates, but nothing beats dropping in on a board!

Ya aslong as the deck has a nice POP then its all good! I used to keep a shed load of blank decks for practice and then just use my enjoi decks when I was comfortable with the tricks.

These days, its all about the carving for me  In fact, Im in the middle of starting my new blog - carveIT.blogspot.com which should be up in the summer :) :Plug:

Ive skated for around 5-6 years on and off. Had a few good sessions stance200 way back when but still enjoy skating from time to time. All i can say is, Es teainers (preferably accels), Girl decks and tightish trucks. And a shit load of practice and be prepared to fall. When i was younger it didnt hurt as i would get up and carry on but now it aches for days! haha.

Practice and dont run before you can walk. (always have your weight centered)
