As title.
Brakes could probably use sharpening up with a bleed, where is the best place to get this done, and what's the cost on average?
Cheers! :)

it'll cost you 20 odd quid for decent brake fluid and i'd say do it yourself, its piece of piss!
this is a very easy job to do yourself or get a local chappy to help out.
Easy bleed kit about £5, new fluid about £7, satisfaction of doing the job yourself...priceless :D
Any garage will be able to do it for you but I'd guess they'd charge for an hours labour at the least
edit: £20 for fluid, what stuff you using?

Is it that easy?? Are there any guides?
How long does it generally take? I saw something on the net that was showing some guy holding some crazy digital metre because of the ABS?! Lol
think there migth be a guide in the top of the S14 technical. You don't need anything fancy, you can do it with a tub, small bit of clear hose, a spanner and someone to press the pedal. Although the rear end might need jacking up to get to the rear callipers, possible the wheels taking off, mine have always been off already so don't know if they can be done in-situ, the fronts can though, just turn the wheel to give access
You can do it in under an hour as long as nothing goes wrong - can be very problomatic if a bleed nipple shears but I bled my 14a the other week and had no probs at all.

Nice one mate, thanks very much!
Did you find it made much of a difference?
I think mine need doing because it's a little spongy on the first press but once you bring it back up and press again it feels perfect.
if there's air in there then you should be able to tell the difference, it won't be hugh, but you'll know its there ;)

basically put a "1 man bleed bottle" on the nipple, open it up 1/2 a turn then pump the peddle 10-20 times (10 for fronts, 20 for rears) and do the nipple up (not to tight) then check the reservoir is still above min, infact fill it up.... unless you have finished bleeding then just put it to max....
bleed it:-
near side (passenger) rear
offside rear
nearside front
offsde front
then (iff you have it) abs rear then abs front
i usually do this process twice just to make sure all the crap fluid is out....
that any help??

RBF 600... £10 a bottle from opie oils i needed 3 bottles to do mine properly... great stuff better than that only RBF 660 race or silkolene something or other race but then you're talking 15/20 quid a bottle!
PS - back on topic, if you're after sharpening your breaks up and since you're gonna bleed them anyway i'd defenatly recomend changing the crappy rubber hoses for some braided ones!
Didn't do it yourself though.I did front & your bird done your rear!!!!!
yeah ok so I didn't quite do it my self, but I could of done if i wanted to :p
EP1: fair enough, buying a couple of bottles will rack the price up ;)
Didn't realise there are abs bleed places, might to have a bit of a look at that one :D
I think it is only the s14 that has an abs bleed nipple, the s14a doesn't have one.
200sx abs is shit anyway - drove an r32 gtst (non-abs) and the pedal feel is 100x better without the abs circuit - im ripping out my abs unit when i next service the 200 and do the fluids.
Rich
Have you done it yet? If you drive to mine one evening in the week I can do it for you.

That'll do for me then :D got enough bits to do on the car in time for Japfest without having to worry about re-bleeding the brakes again ;)

Hi Jon!
Thanks very much mate, you're too kind! :)
You going to Japfest?
Yeah I'm going. Will be on the stand. When do you want to do it?

When are you available bud?
I've got a boost leak too which I've been wanting to fix the past week but seem to have lost the tools :wack: My dad had a 'clear out' and I think some useful tools went with it! Something to do with the dumpvalve I'm sure, so would be cool to whip that off at the same time if that's OK mate? :)
Cool, an SXOC stand?!
Im free every evening this week after 18.30 if thats any good. I have a clutch to do on a rover 620TI anyway so will be doing car stuff.

To be fair if you have air in the abs on s14a its a bit of a twat to bleed! I think the best way i found was to bleed at the four corners as normal, give it a blat up the road and then smash the brake pedal emergency stop style. If the abs cuts in it should push the air out into the main braking circuit, this should allow you to bleed it out in the normal way at the four corners. A bit dodge as once the air has gone form the abs to the main brake circuit the pedal will be soft as sh!t - don't venture too far from home or on busy roads if using this technique! In fact stick to private roads for this method.

if your changing rear pads, do you still have to bleed the fronts?

If you're just changing pads, you shouldn't have to bleed anything.
