View Full Version : Van rental for the 2010 trip.....
Right you scurvy lot!
The general consensus is that we need a big van to ship items like fridges and gennys down to France for the weekend and Grazor, Parker and I have volunteered to take it
It's going to be a huge benefit to us all but it isn't cheap
I'm happy to sort out the rental of the van but I don't want to be pished about with paying for it and ending up getting stung  :whip:
Looking at Doc's list there are 35 of us going, the van hire including European recovery and continental excess is going to be £450 - £480 depending on what day we hire it, we'll need it early so that I can run around the weekend before and collect all the big items we're taking. I'll pay for the diesel ;)
That doesn't include the deposit
My suggestion is that everyone sticks in £15 that works out at £525, I will spend whatever is left on beer and put it in the fridges we'll be bringing :thumbs:
Paypal makes the most sense so please send me £15 (as a gift  ) to algiemo@hotmail.com
I'll be sticking it on my credit card this week :sxoc:
Can those of you who know non SXOC peeps that are coming please pass this onto them
Cheers
Alg (less than 6 weeks to go! :D:D:D)

Thanks for all the responses folks.
As for those who haven't paid yet (save little Dan and Cloudy) :whip::whip::whip:
Enterprise are excellent, call centre open until midnight and very informative over the phone :D
Sadly they only hire in the UK, no trips to Europe!!!!:annoyed:
Perhaps we could just make a van for you to drive SXOC style:wack:

Just tried again and got the answer machine telling me they're open open 08:00 - 6pm! :annoyed:
Ken,
I'll try again tomorrow mate,
Jules,
I've PM'd Scolding but thought as he is everywhere at all times it wouldn't be necessary :p
Have you spoken to Matt yet Algie?
And Daz, Jay and Cowbell as they dont get on here much either. And Bruce who never comes on here

I've been emailing with Algie and am about to sort my shizzle out :wack:
Any joy with the van dude?
How we getting on with fridges?
Still no joy, I've phoned twice more since the last update and both times it went strainght to answer machine, again saying opening hours are 8am to 6pm and they'll call me back :annoyed:
I'll give it a go tomorrow morning while I'm at Japfest and see if Saturdays are more productive
Just emailed Thrifty and they have no problem taking a van overseas as long as it is returned to the UK, no extra charges either!
I have the guys contact details if you need them
OK I lied it costs more (but I dont know how much) Nationwide quote with Euro cover for abou £450
OK I lied it costs more (but I dont know how much) Nationwide quote with Euro cover for abou £450

I'll have a look :nod::thumbs:
Nationwide are coming up at £595 for a SWB van and £664 for me Tom,
That's including Euro cover
I'm tempted to take a drive to Wilsons and book it in person tbh

Algie what are you playing at, I just phoned them and got through first time!
Are you ringing 0870 1240 120 ?
I've given them your mobile number and asked that they call you tomorrow. I think either you might have an old number or incorrect one?!?!?
I lifted the number from here > http://www.wilsons.co.uk/rentals/contactme.htm
Didnt see that you wanted it for the weekend before, sorry mate I just did it form Tuesday to Tuesday

Doc, Algie. as you know mate i dont really get on here much, scolding has been telling me to get on and get sorted,
right,
Im taking a van also, was going to be just for our group, ie the lads local to me, matt, jay, ben, cowbell algie etc, and what ever room is left i was opening to last years goers, then after that anyone else,
the van has cost me diddly squat, just need to give it back with a full tank, so about £7 off everyone using it, there is far to much reading to do for me to catch up on everything, so if you wanna give me the low down in short, sweet.
looking forward to party party party action. cant wait
I booked the van this afternoon with Wilsons, they're calling me back tomorrow with all the details I need.
I haven't yet given them any money so we can pull out BUT we have to be sure we can get everything in your van Daz,
We're looking to take at least the two club fridges, a large gas BBQ and I think a generator.
It was also going to be for anyone who had any other large itmes they couldn't squeeze into a car.
Are you going to have enough spare room in your van Daz?
You'll need to reply by 8am tomorrow morning or we're commited to a rental van
colchester daz
18-05-2010, 00:19
how much notice would you need to rent the van, Maybe hold fire before spending all the money, ive got a vw transporter, so not the biggest in the world, but should be more than enough, how big are the fridges? all i should have is tents for 7 people, gazebo, lights, plus bag's etc, Matt was on about taking a small fridge and freezer?
Are the fridges for the whole 30 odd goin,g or just a certain group??
Think we are still going to need the van Algies going to get:nod:
colchester daz
18-05-2010, 02:15
well thats cool, mines here for any overflow.
Daz,
The stuff in this van is for all of us (mostly to keep the beer cold! :D )
I'm busy from 9am onwards today which is why we gotta decide this morning.
There are 36 of us going so it's fair to say we will probably need both vans, I saw the fridges in the club van at Japfest and they are pretty massive.
The fridges are at Channies I believe, so someone will need to sort a cheeky liaison out there. If me and lad are coming down in the camper we can fit a genny and probably any other largish items from the North of Watford boys in
colchester daz
18-05-2010, 13:15
Ok no probs, I think we will still be taking our own fridges too, I spoke to Colwell and decided to meet up the week before lemans to swap all the stuff I'm taking for him, so if you need me take anything, we can sort it then.
You got some gennys as well Daz? If so, with Matts lights, the SXOC firdges and whatever else you south Westerners are bringing in your van and then my camper with some stuff in it we should be happy days plus.
Fcuk me - for the first time Im actually thinking this is going to work. :D
Right. Not been on in a while...
First off. Has anyone thought about how much power we're gonna need to power said fridges and freezers? I just checked my freezer (just a little one that goes under the worktop) and that says 90W. WHich is a lot lower than I thought tbh!
The lights take a lot of power (more for every light we use). They run off of 110v only, so we can either use just a 110 output on a genny or I can ask my neighbour if I can use his invertor again...
Im gonna try and get the round BBQ stove thingy again too.
So as far as I know, the stuff I need to put in the van is:
Gas BBQ
Round Gas BBQ
Gas can for BBQ
110v lights (x as many as work) + inverter
Light posts/bases
Camping gear :wack:
Stereo and speakers
Freezer
Extension leads x 2
Petrol Can(s)
Clothes :wack:
Ill add to this list as I remember
Dont forget ya spare bulbs, triangle and HiVis for everyone in the car either! :wack:
Just sent money across for the van rental for me and my mate jim

Dont forget ya spare bulbs, triangle and HiVis for everyone in the car either! :wack:
Good call Matt, from what I've read before, the Hi Vis jackets also need to be IN the car with you / reachable from inside WITHOUT getting out and rummaging around in the boot etc. Read of a few people getting fined for having them at the bottom of their boot etc etc on Pistonheads in 2008 or 2009.
Matt: Do you need more gas or can we get some form of splitter?
Will make a list of what I need shifting, as above probably a small genny + empty jerry cans, folding table or 2, 240v light bar maybe Alistairs folding bed that he likes...

Hence my reminder! People mocked me last year for taking ten vests/jackets so they all had one! :wack:

Its OK, as long as you only want to run one at a time. Unless we bring Jays bottle aswell? Ill ask him when I see him.

Yeah, I have a list that I take to all the camping do's. Then I add all the bigger stuff. In fact I think I still have my LeMans list from last year somewhere :D

No gas canisters on the tunnel isn't it??
lpg's a big no-no, but i think camping gas is ok if it's a certain size and is fixed in position, pretty sure the regs are all on the euro-tunnel website :)
LPG is a no, but gas:
- If your vehicle is fitted with a “mobile” gas container the quantity of gas is limited to 47kg (or approximately 93 litres) for a single container and is limited to 50kg (or approximately 99 liters) in the case of several containers.
- If your vehicle is fitted with a “fixed” gas container the quantity of gas is limited to 47kg (or approximately 93 litres) for a single container and the maximum filling rate is 80% (or approximately 73 litres).
In the case of several fixed containers the quantity of gas is limited to 50kg (or approximately 99 litres) on the whole with a maximum filling rate of 80% per container (or approximately 79 litres).
- If your vehicle is fitted with a combination of mobile and fixed containers the quantity of gas is limited to 50kg and rules previously described applies.
Which is handy as Ill have one for the barbie and one for the fridge/hob in the camper. Happy days - cold beer all the way down

JC. Whats the current rating on the T/J?
Yeh the more extension leads the better.
And Ben. We're not going on the Chunnel :wack:
Oh and I saw the dude that lent us the round stove last night. He's said I can borrow it again. Ill try and get the other bots that go with it this time
Anyone got any of the yellow 110v inter-connecting cables that they use on 110v plant? Ive only got a few and I think we're gonna need a few more! Unless I cut n shut a couple of these ones... :wack:
My inverter has a continuous rating of 1000va & a 20 minute tool rating of 1500va
Will that be ok mate?

Van is booked, £780 including £300 deposit.
I'll sort out the euro breakdown cover next week.
Grazor and I are planning on doing a round robin in the van on the weekend of the 5th and 6th to pick up all the bits up we need. I'll start a seperate thread up for that one,
If anyone has anything they need in the van for Le Mans let me know IN THE OTHER THREAD :thumbs:
I'll send over Thompsons £15 when i get a chance:nod: Good work Alg:thumbs:
We have a van folks :D
And it's even a Nissan :D
Thanks to those who contributed, for those who haven't coughed up yet :smash:
Pics to follow :D
All sorted for the most part now,
Picked the fridges up from Channie in Bristol today and had a mega exspensive slap up lunch (some some awesome posh totty too, Channie nearly went straight! :p )
We've got Kens BBQ too so the only large stuff we've got left is Cloudy's generator and some bits from Andy Field :D
I just wanted to say a masive thanks to Channie for meeting us in Bristol today to swap the bits over (even though it pains me to say nice things about him :wack: )
He's a braver man than I bringing the club van up all that way from Plymouth to meet us :notworthy
We've also got a few tables and some other sundry bits to keep us going, (remember kids this is club stuff so be kind to it or we're all copping the cost of repair/replacement :p :whip: )
Cheers mate, appreciate it
Cloudy/Andy, I'll see you guys tomorrow :nod::thumbs:
JC,
The van is very nearly full and having driven it 150 miles part loaed today I have to say I really wouldn't be comfortable with a TV in there, even though it's all strapped down it's still all moving about a little and it's heavy stuff, I'd say it's too risky to bring the tele tbh :(
See you all ina few days
Alg :D
Stop being a poof!
I am also a gaylord! :p
you still got the box for the tv? should be ok if it's covered :)
I am also a gaylord! :p

At the moment there are none in the rental van, cloudy is bringing one tonight, so is Andy but there may not be room in the van for it (that or the TV guys? :p )
We do have the two club jerry cans though so getting petrol and keeping them fed this year should be easier :thumbs:

Who is James, and can someone confirm this? If weve only got two gennys then we may as well leave the fridges at home. :indiff:

I'd guess James = colwell.
dont think fridges take that much juice??
We'll have two fridges, a freezer, the lights, the TV, potentially a sky box and and Xbox, all the phone/ipod chargers and anything else that needs electric. Thats quite a lot of stuff.
Right. NO electric kettle this year please. Its a fcuking waste of power and we have SHIT loads of gas burners, so use them!
