Download the one and only Java console mate!!
Coffe cup by SUN (the guys who invented Java!!)
yeah yeah
i just want my ie to work as it used to!
all the java/active scriptings are enabled, so why can't i get into chatrroms that my old Win 95 running IE6 used to? (now on XP running IE6)
Coz Sun wanted Java to be Java, noy MS java a with wibble bit in it. So MS took there ball home and took Java out of IE6.
Do the proper thing and DL Suns JVM or what ever its called.
On a side point IE6 dosnt want to verift XML DTDs properly. Can anay one shead some light on this?

Are you running XP SP1a by any chance?
Installing SP1a removes MS JVM
that could be it Ash.

Configure your environment variables to point to the sun JVM. The microsoft one isn't a real jvm anyway.

right, I've done the suggested action from
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76462&highlight=java
and still no go. last time i had an icon in my taskbar, nothing...
don't think it has worked despite it claiming it has. any way i can check?
still no java reference in tools>options>advanced as there used to be...
If you've downloaded and installed Sun's Java, there's an applet in Control Panel that let's you get at it's settings (called "Java Plug-In").
not on mine - it goes from internet options to keyboard...
anyone? i dida mahoosive d/l and it said all was well... plus i got a thing in add/remove withJava sun on it - but its up at 130meg which would have taken about 12hrs to d/l over my modem, so i know that isn't right...
Down load this...
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=62305
You'll get Java and a better browser thrown in for free
still no good, done the Sun d/l twice, won't run due to missing file.
ANd the Opera link bombs out.
I jsut want the piece of software that I had b4 that sat in the icon tray happily and made it all run good...
Sounds like there might me sumit wrong with your pooter :indiff:

yeah, I use Windows.
Can someone point me in a direction where I can test out whether the download is working? I only ever used to use on Java chatroom, and I'm assuming its working but as I can't get in there to ask anyone I don't actually know...
Muchly ta
If it sat in the system tray that was the SUN JVM, download it again from SUN and not from somewhere else.

Cheers Dave, I'll try that again.
Who are CoffeeCup then?
CoffeeCup are a small (?) company that make some quite handy software :) I use their FTP proggie.
But the Java icon is a "Coffee Cup" that sits in the system tray.

OK, I've just sat here for ages trying to download bloody Java and its come back with:
CAn not update system, there may be a problem with the installer package (or something similar anyway).
Any ideas?
Yeah .... it's broken :wack:
God knows mate, if it's XP try as a different user / give yourself a new profile.

that's what I've done 4 bloody times now, and it comes up with some message about a crap installer.
I'll do it again, and post the message word for word...

dunno. I've got all the latest Microtoss updates, other than Jet 4.0 I think, otherwise XP is 100% up to date...
I didn't have all this hassle when I did it last time around...

Try this link - rmb/save target...
http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=9505
It is 14 Mb though...
That should enable the installer to work offline - might be 'cause of your crappy dial-up.
