Hey guyz,

Can someone point me in the right direction!

I want to import my Nissan EXA (KN13) from Australia!

But i'm not sure what would need to be done once i had it shipped over! How would i go about getting a UK compliance plate and such?

Also any idea on what the insurance would be?

Nissan EXA N13 2 door 2+2 coupe/hatchback
CA18DE FWD (fairly stock)

19y/o male (single)
Night Worker for supermarket
No no-claims bonus (you dont need insurance in OZ)
License since start of the year (getting changed to Full UK)

Cheers for any help atall!
Craig.

Cost you about £1000 to get it over here and on the road and probably another £1000 to insure it...

more than that, you got 17.5% vat, & 12% import tax on top of that IIRC. you also gotta get an SVA test done, kinda like an MOT, that costs about £300 - 400, then get MOT on it.
on top of this you got shipping costs.
best thing to do would be to register with a company who import cars, then you can bid at auctions through them, and theyll put your car on the boat etc. etc.

www.showatrade.com might have something. Why Australia, was it an Aussie model?

If you are permanently importing it into the country, I think you may be able to do it as a personal import as you have moved from Australia. This should mean it just has to pass an MOT test to make sure its road worthy, rather than the SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) test.

Please read http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm to see if it will qualify as a personal import. If it is a "commercial" import it would be subject to the SVA (if under 10 years old).

Insurance may be tricky and expensive, especially for someone as young as yourself. Could run into thousands, even though its not a particularly powerful car. You'll probably need to go to a specialist broker, and even then, it may be a problem :(

ok we're slowly getting there!

It's a 1988 model, they are Jap imports to OZ but the one i got is built to Ozzie standards!

I've owned it since november last year!

I'm looking to pay £3200 for a years 3rd party F&T on a 200SX anyway!!!

That website u gave me doesn't really help that much! but what you said has helped me better!

Most of the relevent info is there but its not exactly easy reading material!!

You won't need the SVA test then. I would speak to a DVLA vehicle licensing office maybe to confirm what their exact requirements are.

I would also speak to Customs and Excise (0845 010 9000) for advice on the forms you need to fill in for their purposes. AFAIK you shouldn't have to pay VAT and Duty on them as you already own the vehicle!
