I normally use PC's for games and don't really have much idea about PS1's, but I bought a PS1 last night thats only about 2 months old (the small one) with analogue controllers and a few games etc for £30 which I thought was good.

I have been told that to play copied, or rather backed up, games then I either need to change a chip or solder a device onto the main circuit board.

Can anybody give me any pointers or web site addresses ? I have soldering kit at home and am reasonably competent so don't mind having a go myself.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, I've heard about these units, but not sure where to get them from or if they will fit in the new style small PS1's.

Nope this was just for the Older Grey Larger ones... You need to get it chipped and the best place is a computer fair... Normally about £15/20 ;)

I used to chip the original PSX's. They are a piece of piss to do, just solder flying leads onto the chip, and make sure you have a real steady hand :)

There is actually a way to mod the PS1 without having to solder anything.

http://www.modchip.com/indexps.htm

Bottom of the page, the modplug. It plugs into the parallel port on the back fo the PS1. :)
