Well, the S14a has gone after 4 years

I'm now piling cash into my RB26 Sileighty but thought I'd buy a run around.

I give you..............a 1998 BMW 323i SE Saloon with just about FSH, leather, electric everything (except seats)(and it all works :wack:), digital climate control....

2.5 straight 6 24 valve engine sounds like it did in 1998, 127,000 miles.

£500!!!!! Bargain! :D

The guy threw in the Tom Tom and a nice Sony CD headunit with Aux. input in the front!

It has a few key marks and a couple of dents but otherwise it's great. No MOT when I bought it and it had stood for a year. I put it through an MOT and it passed with flying colours! Only advsiory was front pads.

Some pics:

It needs a good clean but I'm pretty chuffed otherwise.

The plan is not to spend any money on it :wack:

That hasn't gone well TBH :D

I've got a few bits together already, all on a tight budget but should make it a bit more interesting. Watch this space!

Don't spend any money on it.. or your :ghey: levels will become even greater..

As it's just a runaround, I will let both you and Guy off for buying :ghey: Beemers..

I'm not old enough for a sensible car yet.. I figure maybe in about 30 years time when I'm retired  Though I kind of like the idea of being in my 60's and ragging about in a noisy old Nissan (if it's still working.. which I doubt it.. lol)

Dave would be worried if I was nice to him! You should see the abuse he gives me!

Just because you can't but coilovers for a datsun for £150 :wack: Most of the E36 forum run them and say they have lasted 10,000+ miles, plus you get a 2 year warranty if they blow!

Its whats going on my bimmer for the weekender :D:wack:

Maybe so... but when it comes down to it, you still have herpes :wack:

I'm not gonna strip it or anything, apart from the coilovers it should be fine. I'm leaning more towards forking out for a LSD for it as opposed to a welder though...

Rears are a spring and damper setup with a height adjuster on the top of the spring:

http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll102/dave270r/BMW/Photo0211.jpg

All finished:
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll102/dave270r/BMW/Photo0213.jpg

Now I was worried that cheapo coilovers would be awful. They are a huge improvement of standard though. Not crashy, turn in massively improved, understeer reduced and road holding much better. They really tightened the car up. I'm really chuffed :)

Pete C
12-03-2010, 20:43
Now you need a twin exhaust to fill the hole in the diffuser. I'm surprised it doesn't have one actually, I thought it was only the 4-pots that had the single pipe

And damn, that car looks clean underneath considering how much E36s rust :)

retardrift
12-03-2010, 20:52
Its a 1997/8 car so there shouldn't be much rust, and they are made properly :)

Why, did they do something special to E36s in those years? I've seen some very rusty E36s in the past (a '97 M3 Evo included)...

retardrift
12-03-2010, 20:59
Later cars....generally less rust but yeah there are exceptions....

My 328i is also a 97/8 car and has no rust at all! From the ones I have seen they don't rust anywhere near as bad as S bodies!!

I can still drop another inch on the adjusters so not going that far! :wack:

Trail fitted my wheels today. They are 8J ET20 with a 225/45 tyre. I have ordered 205/45's all round as they scrub. I reckon it'll look pretty cool when they are on properly :D

Why fit narrower tyres and compromise on grip though? Just get the arches rolled/pulled, IMHO it'll look better like that anyway
