ALL WHEEL DRIVE DEBUT
The opening meeting of the season is always an exciting one at Castle Combe. Pre-season testing gives an idea of who is on the pace, but it's the racing that counts. Eagerly awaited is the launch of the new AJEC Academy Saloon Car Cup series for 4 wheel drive saloons, with the Mitsubishi Evos fighting the Subaru Imprezas and other mainly Japanese exotica. The contrast with our own Saloon Car Championship adds an extra element.
As the 60th season gets underway, we welcome Alfa Romeo in its centenary year, whilst Toyota MR2's have the first of two visits. Our own re-titled Sports & GT Championship will feature the same packed grids as the evergreen Formula Ford 1600's, which never fail to provide nail biting entertainment. With every point counting, drivers will be looking to stamp their authority on their respective championships and get their campaigns off to a good start.

don't think he's using it again this year :( they've changed the regs so that there's nothing above 2ltr, means they can have 36 cars on the starting grid instead of 31. He's coming along in something else but have no idea what, will be interesting I'll bet :wack:
I'll be there all day marshalling, so feel free to bring me over a cuppa ;)

If anyone wants tickets I may be able to get them 2 4 1  just had an email at work. I can get £15 for two adult tickets (or more if needed), has to be today though. If you want I am happy to buy and meet up ove rthe weekend (no time wasters please;))
going to this as well. i kow the ajec lot and lets say there championship you dont wanna miss out on. ive seen a few of the cars and they are mental. few have come from time attack and castle coombe saloon car championships to enter this so will be interesting, ajeccs evo is quicker round coombe than norris' evo and it was on F1 asimetrics when it beat him by 3 seconds last year.

Hi all that went to the race today.
I saw 4 200's, all 14's. I managed to blag some media passes as my bro was taking photos for the MR2 Only magazine. Was a good day, if not a tad cold (but an airfield in May, in Blighty is going to be fresh :wack:) and glad the rain stayed off.
Nice looking red and blue 14a's parked next to each other . Made me want to spray my rear number plate surround body coloured now.
hello skid
that was me and steve (Bristol Blue) the red and blue ones. A good day out but yes pretty cold.
The funniest thing was me buying a folding chair not thinking about it taking it up to coombe only to find it was kiddies size. (lucky Im a skinny runt)
Some good battling throughout the day that white evo x and 8 scrapping in the ajec second race was my favourite only to have the wheel fall off and stuff it on camp. Gutted for him.
The drive into castle coombe was good too, love the roads round there. 60 all the way in with steve :wack:
good old guy in the 8, normally races his matt black e36 m3 4dr in the castle coombe saloon championships.

I was standing at track level jsut before Camp when the diff/box exploded on one of the black 8's. I have been to loads of race meets and have never seen that before! There was shrapnel everywhere. The marshalls in front of us picked some out of his kit bag and the next lap my bro got hit in the chest with a bit of the casing, thrown up from the mental Quattro. Lucky he had his media bib on and they make them thick at Combe. The lump was about 1/2" across and travelling pretty quickly!!!!!
I presume the 10 shredded its tyres on the shrapnel, hence why he went off at Camp.
Heres some of the pics from the MR2's my bro took. http://www.pbase.com/trackside/mr2_combe_050410
