Snap on is far to expensive IMO. I'd go for the Halfords "professional range", pretty much flawless I'd say. Think they come with a lifetime warrenty too, not 100% sure on that though.

Dunc.

i cant fault my Homebase socket set

Draper spanner set was quite good too. That tootled up website is very reasonable indeed

the halfords stuff is ok - their open ended spanners are rubbish though, far to bendy - rounds off nuts very easily indeed.

Only used them sometimes at my old work, didn't own halfords stuff myself. This could well be a fault I hadn't prevoiusly noticed.

Sykes-Pickavant are very good - I replaced all my tools with Sykes stuff after they got half inched.

I also made sure that the stuff I use the most e.g 3/8 inch socket wrench was Snap-On. It just means that they will last longer and they have a lifetime guarantee - so I should never need to buy a wrench again!!!

Snap on tools are also damn sexy and very nice to use.

MAC Tools (http://www.mactools.com/home.aspx) are meant to be almost as good as Snap On at a more affordable price. Still not exactly bargain basement though.

Same with Draper and Clake tools fancy looking spanners (snap on rip offs).

Draper stuff is usually ok though at budget prices, I still have a 3/8" and 1/2" set, the sockets are good, but the ratchets are crap.

Go for a draper expert set, and then fork out for a decent ratchet.

Britool stuff is pretty fookin good too :)

Noooooooooo dont buy Britool, should be called Brital  We use them at work and if i had a quid everytime a bit of chrome plateing got stuck in my finger i would be rich. The sockets crack easily as well. Complete shite IMO

:o

My old man has 2 torque wrenches by them, callibrated, and they are just as good as my snap on one. He also has several large sockets and a 1/2" ratchet. Years old, and used regularly. Never experienced any problems with the kit myself anyway :)
