Last week the airbag light came on as usual when I started the car but instead of going out after a couple of seconds it started flashing. Checked the fuse, nothing wrong there:confused: Apart from the fact it is really starting to get  flashing all the time, should I be worried about it going off in my face while trying to navigate the slippy Welsh roads?

IIRC the Air bag light will start to flash when the is a drop in resistance in the circuit.

I have a super slow so can't go off searching for it the reset voodoo. but when I fitted a after market steering wheel I soldered a 2.7ohm (or 27?:wack:) into the circuit to compensate.

Once installed, there is a reset function involving the ignition key and the pressing the drivers door button that tells the car when the drivers door is shut. (Its somthing like ignition on press button 3 times then off then on. But I can't remember:wack:)

If you look this method up (Not sure if its in the workshop mannual but its in S14 tech) up This will allow reset and then put it into diagnostic mode etc, and either just go away or by flashing X number of times in that mode give you an idea of the fault.

As I said I have a crap connection or I'd go find it myself but Search 14 tech buddy for Air bag light. It is in there:thumbs:

should I be worried about it going off in my face while trying to navigate the slippy Welsh roads? The system will have disabled itself and won't go off even when it should :wack:

Not sure if my datascan will reset it but we'll plug it in anyway at the next meet

Told you I had a slow connection its taken me this long to find it:wack:

Shamlessly cut and paste from some other far flung depth of the forum:wack:

Within 7 seconds of turning the ignition on (position II) press the drivers door switch at least 5 times this puts you into the diag mode, the airbag light should flash in a series of long and short flashes, count the short ones.

0 All OK
2 Drivers airbag module circuit fault
7 Diag sensor fault
8 Passenger airbag module fault
9 More than 2 faults present

Then ignition off wait a few seconds then back on and within 7 seconds of turning the ignition on press the drivers door switch at least 5 times this puts you into user mode.

When you go back into user mode it will cancel any errors in the diagnostic unit memory and if the system is OK and it was just a glitch the light will stay out, if there really is a problem it will start flashing again.

Mine started flashing when my battery was low on charge, I think the low V screwed up the self diagnostics it runs when you start the car. I did the above and got "all OK" so reset it and it's been OK since.

All hail the Mighty Tech Manual

That is all:D

Cheers guys, I'm off to go and give this a try now:thumbs: I have had a low battery for the last couple of weeks which is about the same time this problem started.

FAIL :( 1 long flash two short ones. So I guess that means drivers airbag module is knackered. Any ideas?

Keep trying the door button part, it can be a pain but it does work in the end. It's probably down to your low battery as that's around the times when the air bag light has come on with mine.

i had the same problem. when i bought the car a month ago, the guy jump started it and touched the wires or summut and the airbag light started flashing. this was 6 jan. the battery only lasts 24 hrs and i need to jump it again if not used. the light flashing bugs the poop outta me but i been to busy to look into fixing it. anyway, i had to jump start it on monday, and i conected the + to the running cars battery last, and had a few sparks. started car fine, put the cables back in the trans am, and jumped in the sx. guess what....airbag light is no longer flashing. RESULT!!!! so all ya gotta do is jumpstart the car wrongly a couple of times!!!!! :)
