Ok.. what am i looking at tyre wise for the following wheel sizes...

17 * 7.5 - 215/50?

18 * 8 - 225/45?

i dont want rubber stretched really tight over the rims.. but dont really want to spend loads of money (does anyone?).. are there a more common/cheap size tyre for 17-18 inch wheels?

does that sound reasonable??

and what width are the standard wheels? 7inch?

cheers for any advice..

As i was told when i was looking for rubber, obviously there is a sliding price from make to make as they get better, but you need to go for a `popular fitment size`to keep the price down!!

For a:- 17" 7.5- you are looking at a 205/40/17
18" 8.0-you are looking at a 225/40/18

Shop around but because these are more common, there should be more competition and so the price is kept lower!!!!

225/45 will go on a 17x7.5 and is an option if you want a bit more grip.

205/40 R17 will have a significantly smaller rolling radius than standard (effectively similar to lowering the gearing).

yeah.. i was just thinking that..

dont want to reduce the rolling radius if i can help it do i? i really wanted the wheels to fill the arches better (combined with springs and shocks [-30mil])...

so the prices i have at the mo are,

standard wheels, 205/55/16's pirrelli 6000 is about £60..

17inch 7.5 wide rim, 205/40/17 dunlop sp sport ~£96, or avon zz3 £75

17inch 7.5 wide rim, 225/45/17 dunlop sp sport's ~£96

18inch 8 wide rim, 225/40/18, avon zz3 £103, dunlop/yoko/eagle ~£130..

all that seem reasonable?? any recomendations? are the avons all that bad?

Think the Dunlops are OK, but pricing is usually not far off Goodyear F1's, Bridgestone Pontenza's and Pirelli P Zero which I would choose over the Dunlop. Never heard anyone praising the Avons to be honest.

Toyo Proxes are well priced and well liked. Soft though.

Falken FK451 are pretty good for the money if you can get them.

Got a set off ZZ1's, bought them second hand (almost brand new) they are OK  BUT they are fecking loud.

Funny when you try and nail it round a round about.

You do get some funny looks :D .

But don't buy them (unless they are dirt cheap) because a "performance tyre" they are not.

Go for the Goodgear GSD3, they are spot on:thumbs:, had some on me MR2 SW20 they are the Borrocks.
