That time of year again, it starts on Saturday kicking off with these:

Ireland v Italy Saturday at 2:30pm
England v Wales Saturday at 5pm
Scotland v France Sunday at 3pm

Full fixture list and official website here (http://www.rbs6nations.com/en/matchcentre/match-centre_fixtures-results.php).

England v Wales should obviously be an entertaining match. I've got high hopes that we might actually manage to do better than just beat Italy this year after a strong winter test! http://freeonlinemoviesforum.com/images/smilies/smiley-scotland.gif

Cant wait for the start of this.... Come on Ireland!!!

Italy at home in Croker should be fine.. dont want to tempt fate so wont say much about that...

Cant wait for the game against France....da bastids!!! it wont be as "handy" for them in the rugby!!!

toughy also for our game v England as we're away, but glad to have wales at home , as that will be a tricky match

hard to see beyond France or Ireland for the title to be honest. De pends what France turns up (as always) the one that hammered SA or rolled over for NZ.

My prediction is;
France
Ireland
England
Scotland
Wales
Italy

I recall we had a really good winter test at the end of 2008 then went on to score just the one messy and unconvincing win against Italy in the 6 Nations. We expect to fail though so any success is a welcome bonus!! :D

My prediction:
Ireland
France
Wales/England
Scotland
Italy

Sorry to the Scots, would really like to see them rank higher, but really wouldn't want to bet on it. Having said that, the French have been known to get complacent before and I can see Scotland putting up a fight on Sunday.

Stu
03-02-2010, 16:27
I've just been looking at our line up for Sunday and it's not too bad with some guys who like to run ball in hand at the back. My only concerns are no Strokosch who is injured and we have Nathan Hines playing so WILL spend some time playing with 14 men and give away half the length of the pitch in penalties. He's a good player just far too keen to see how far he can push the rules. :annoyed:

Well if thats the best both sides could do (a rubbish first half ...) then depending on what happens tomorrow (and i aint holding much hope) then France are going to piss this...

England were rubbish, Wales handed them the win and Ireland earlier were not exactly convincing..
:annoyed:

Jezz_S13
06-02-2010, 18:52
Yeah, not the best start to the 6 nations. No classics.

Ireland were poor against the amatures, England just did what was necessary while the Welsh lost their heads.

Scotland might beat the French...

Stu
06-02-2010, 19:07
Tomorrow will be interesting to see how France and Scotland start as today was a bit shaky. Ireland should have won by a lot more, Wales were unlucky and I think would have won had they not lost a man and conceded 2 tries in the 10 minutes. Hopefully next weeks games will show a bit more confidence and commitment.

Oh, and I think James Hook will have bagged me a fairly healthy tally of fantasy rugby points!

Well, one upside of being on call all weekend was managing to watch all 3 games.

The downside is that was some of the dullest play I have ever seen :wack:

I quite enjoyed the French/Scots game ..... and as much as the commentary harped on about Scotland not standing a chance  ... I really did they were going to pull it out the bag in the last minute.

jimbo
08-02-2010, 09:26
The French look pretty good for the 6N now. Their scum is looking very strong and England, Ireland and Wales all have scrums that are no better (possibly a bit worse) than Scotland and they got stuffed. A half decent ref would have had the scots pinged alomost everytime for standing up.

Chriscooke
09-02-2010, 10:48
I don't think you can read to much in to the first weekend of the six nations. The form book could very well be turned on it's head this weekend imho. People get or return from injury or teams with a point to prove etc... Should be a good series.

Oh and go England :D

I think the French blitz defence will struggle against Ireland to be honest. We Scots aren't renowned for our running backs but when we breached the French defensive line we made a lot of ground and would have scored with a more polished back division. Ireland should punish them given the same opportunities.

Stu

I thought Scotland played bloody well last week, just outclassed by the class of their opposition.
We on the other hand played a bloody awful game, then pretended it was all the fault of being down to 14 men for a short while. That hardly helped but the truth is Wales just didn't have it then and they're playing just as badly today. Never a kick to touch, endless aimless blind balls down the middle returned to sender, slippery hands syndrome, and a ridiculous failure to put balls down the line. Head down and charge forward at a bloody great big defender, get knocked flat, repeat... doesn't work, and if it ever did it was for a team of bigger men than this.
We're damn lucky the scots don't have the 35 - 40 points on the board they deserve.

Sideways14a

We didn't half make a cnut of that! Lawson should never get to wear a Scotland shirt again, fcuking moronic and totally unnecessary penalty that pretty much killed us. Fcuking fat wee useless bastid!! Godman I can almost forgive given the position fcukwit Dickinson had put us in.

Sideways14a
13-02-2010, 15:59
Yeah utterly astonishing .... Everyone is saying "bad luck scotland" and all that but no... we fvking lost it ourselves.. all our own fvking doing...
Wales came back well yeah but..... grrr you cant play like that in these kind of games, you can play for 70mins like world class teams and then the last 10mins like an angry pub team full of yobs.
Second bottom of the table... the team might not deserve that for the rugby they have played recently but on the other hand... yes they do.
Grr...:mad::mad::mad:

Rochester
13-02-2010, 16:05
Nothing to do with Welsh brilliance. All it showed was that 15 men can beat the hell out of 13..... I really don't care for our present style of play which lacks exactly that, style. No flow, no flair, no joy.

Damned shame, best Scots team I have seen in years. Thought so in the match against France (who are my tip for the championship if they keep on playing like they did last week) even tho they were outclassed.

Frankly at 21 - 21 I felt bloody lucky that we were going to fluke the (undeserved) draw. Sorry again Scotland, 'tis no consolation to know it's self inflicted.

Stu
13-02-2010, 16:12
Luck had nothing to do with it, it was well played by Wales taking the opportunity when it came and bad play by Scotland who lost control, discipline and the game as a result. I can't believe we took Ford off for that fat piece of shite(name now corrected)! I suppose it highlights where we lack strength in reserve as we have some good players on the bench, just not where it counts.

squidmato
13-02-2010, 16:24
I just want to know why we didn't play like that for the first 70 minutes! I know I'm not the only Welshman to have been very angry and pissed off with what can only be described as a lack of effort/pride/passion and for some reason a want to stick with predictable standard set plays from Wales. It is as if we just wanted to go through the motions because we were beat already.

Scotland were the better team until the 70 minute mark when they just lost there heads and we "grew some balls", you should have stuck in and defended as you had been doing.

first 20 mins from Ireland were great, but it went wrong when Hickie's break didn't turn out and then we had the fella binned. that's when it turned. but we still had chances, and got over the line

don't get me wrong, France outclassed us, but with the breaks, it would've been closer IMO. anyway, pressure's off now.

my prediction (assuming England beat Italy). England to be the spoilers (and it hurts me to say that, but they've pulled it out in the past)

3 way battle between Ireland, France and England for the title currently. for us it's going to boil down to Twickers in a fortnight as to whether we go from heroes to zeroes. and that'll be a tough match whatever the form-book says.

is that enough cliches in a post:wack:.

whatever the outcome, i'm enjoying the rugby:nod:

Stu
14-02-2010, 11:55
I suppose the first chance of a try was in favour of Ireland when they had an unfortunate bounce deny them a try from a chip kick behind the French defense. I still think France would have resoundingly humped Ireland even without the penalty. The score was 10-3 when Ireland returned to 15 men and the game was far from out of reach. It just took France a bit longer to settle into their game but once they had they were clearly the better team.

Yeah, I read that earlier, fingers crossed for him as he was an extremely promising prospect for us. The reports of his injury went from his legs at the end of the game, to his back about an hour after the game finished to his neck this morning. :wack:

Rory Lamont picking up another injury was just a matter of time, he's not quite as robust as his brother. Paterson will be missed for his boot but Parks is a better stand off with better vision so we're just down 3 players from the back 3!! We still have some decent abilities in Danielli (I don't think he's injured?), De Luca, Southwell and Cairns so we should be able to plug the gaps, we just won't have much (any) reserve strength on the bench.

scotland just aren't ruthless enough. Ireland would never have taken that drop goal in front of the posts at that stage of the game with the tryline so close. they just didn't believe they could make it over the line and settled for the 3 pts instead of 7 pts. bit ironic really that they lost by 4 pts in the end

Another odd selection from Johnson, why not start Moody if he's fit? If he's not fit why's he on the bench? Worsely is not, and never has been, anything other than a solid player. Paul Hodgeson has done well when he's come on but the brain dead, slow passing, Care keeps his spot.

This is a very beatable England side and Scotlands back row, and Euan Murray, can win this for them.

If Scotland play with a bit of belief that they can score then they will:wack:
Its no good having great defensive capabilities and such if the ball aint going over the bloody try line in the hands of one of our players.

The only game of this tournement that may actually be a complete dingdong is the England-Scotland game. The rest have been a bit pants imho, the France - Scotland game was ok, the Welsh game was good for a bit then it fell apart.

A draw was all either team really deserved there. Some great individual play but let down by poor team support. Scotland had their chances and should have won but once again failed to complete on their opportunities and England sucked from start to finish but played solidly enough to be in the right place to capitalise on Scottish indiscipline. Overall it was a poor game. :(

Ross Ford, Scottish number 2 who never commits a foul and is one of the most respectful players and nicest guy you could meet! He also benches reps with over 200kg so maybe not the smartest of moves to wind him up. I don't know what the problem was in that scrum but I've never known anyone to have a problem opposite Ross.

The Brown/Monye collision was memorable, it looked proper bad for Monye but thankfully he has been given the all clear.

Nice to see sport is continuing to a boring as ever this year what with the F1 AND the rugby, I can truely see fun in going shopping with the missus :indiff:

In fairness, it's only the England matches that are boring.

I need to watch it on catch up as I missed it but good to see we got a win. Johnnie Beattie really has been our man of the tournament, hugely powerful and great speed and stamina for a no 8. He's only 25 as well so will be with the team for a good few year to come, assuming no injuries, which is great.

Great game, England played well - shame about the referee.

That was the best England game I have seen in a long time. In fact it's the first England game I have actually enjoyed in a long time. Was a decent game and shows a lot of potential.

The ref was questionable as was bringing tindel off as he was the man of the match imho:nod:

+1

England were really having to play the referee as well as the French - but overall France deserved the Grand Slam.

Scotland/ireland was an immense game.

Been a good tournament.
