You do know there's a good 100bhp rating between those turbo's....

Personally i've never seen fantastic outputs from a 2871. 3071's are far better units.

Yeah, i know.

I should have been a bit clearer.

Both are available to me at the minute. I was worried the 3071 might be an over kill.

Although clarkey ran one with good results

I was interested in response times really

i was running a similar spec to clarkey last year on my 180sx.
Tbh i didnt notice much of a lagg difference between my car and my brothers 2871'ed s14 silvia. The 3071 is a great turbo.the power delivery comes in alot stronger.id go for the 3071 if i was you

What power are you aiming for?

Are you looking for low down response, or top end pull?

These questions kinda answer which turbo is for you.

powerwise 370-400

as for delivery im after more mid to top, but i dont want loads of lag

for 370+ i would have thought you would need 740cc injectors?

To be safe

2871 imo, the 3071's I've seen have not performed that well, certainly not 100bhp more than the 2871 anyway :)

You must be joking, the 3071 pisses on a 28 framed turbo and for little more cost.

I ran a 3071 on my old Pulsar and was making near 440bhp at 1.6 bar. Far from a beleiver of rolling road figures the 3071 had a far better impact on a 4wd car than a 2871 on the same engine. Very little difference in spool up.

On another note, if you're after a max of 400bhp, why would you buy a turbo that's struggling to make that power? You always get something that produces what you want at an easier rate when it comes to turbo's.

Nope, 3071's I've seen have not impressed me tbh. 2871, then 3076 imo, but I'm sure you'll say I'm joking again.

Fair point on the comment about not ragging a turbo to the limit, but the OP wanted 370 ish with minimal lag.

It may be redundant now anyway by the sounds of it, but I've ran both of those exact turbo's for considerable mileage on road and track. For your needs, I would go with the 2871 every time :)

You have 555s and looking for mid to late 300s then get the 2871 0.64 ar.
You can pull some more ponies out by slotting in some cams.
If you want to run a 3071 then your going to want to have 740s, and prob do some bottom end forging ect... No point in running that big a puffer if your not.

Edit on the SR
