Thinking of making this a weekly slot, as the world seems to be going to pot in such a spectacular way :D

Right, where to begin..........

1 - Speed camaers, read over the weekend the goverment them selves funded huge studies into active signs (the one that flash and tell you to slow down)....and found they reduce deaths by ~40%, opposed to gatsos which save about ~14%, so, youd think they would be springing up everywhere as the police are "safety" minded - what have they just ordered more of, ooooooo gatsos  PLUS the fact they cost ~£25k to install each compared to about £2k for an active sign....

2 - Safety campeigners wanting cameras hidden and painted gray again........why? why? why? why?

Grey cameras - people dont see them they dont slow down.....
Yellow cameras - people see em, they slow down, improved safety!

wake up you idots!

3 - tax on fatty foods - this one really takes the biscuit (no pun intended) when will the goverment learn that simply wacking tax on thinks will not stop people doing things......look at fuel, drink, smoking.......IT JUST MAKES PEOPLE POORER!

someone do something! PLEASE! this contry is spinning out of controll!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHH

ah, thats better :)

Those active signs allways worked on me - they make me feel guilty - and they are usually in a built up area. Gatsos, however never did. They just make me slow down for the gatso, not the whole stretch.

Yeah those active signs are good. I always do as close as possible to 30 in a 30 and 40 in a 40 anyhow but they do make you slow down for longer than just the striped lines on the road!

Keep the rants coming mate  :D

There was a recent article in The Economist about the success of gatsos and the debate about painting them yellow. It went on about the fees earned as a sign of improving safety! WTF? He didn't seem to get the point that if fees collected went down then it would mean the number of speading motorists at that camera locations would have reduced!
His attempt at an argument even though he failed to make his point clearly, was to camouflage them again so that people fear hidden cameras and do not speed. Bollox to that. Firstly if we see a camera we slow down, fact, cos we don't want the fine. Secondly, if we are always looking out for hidden cameras at the side of the road, we as drivers will run the increased chance of paying less attention to what's on the road infront of us and around us. Will you be looking at a grey lampost behind a parked van, or the kid that just stepped out from behind a parked car?

It just annoys me that his view on the issue was blinded by regarding gatsos' money earning as a measure of road safety. You can also tell from their articles' context that many writers on the subject are not frequent road users and arrrrgggghhhh!
Can't believe the magazine published such a flawed article.

The flashing signs work best if followed by a Gatso after 100 yards. People only slow down if they think they're about to be done. If there is just the sign, people will start ignoring it.

If you have a flashing sign before the Gatso, it doesn't matter what colour it is. Only a complete plank would speed past a Gatso if they had already gone past a flashing speed sign.

I prefer the 'good health' contracts to receive NHS treatment. You shouldn't be punished for having the odd burger. If you smoke or are a 25 stone bloater, you are displaying a more permenant health problem...
