thought i would post up a few pics of my friends VW caddy that we have been playing with,
origionally it was bought as an unfinished project to be built as a daily. we had just got our workshop so it was ideal. and was cheap too.

but projects will be projects and things have changed recently,

origionally it was just a resto and get it back on the road, but now its been decided that its going RWD due to the simplicity of the job, and that my mate wants another RWD car after owning an s13 recently.

ill let the pics do the talking from here. hope you like

no.

ive always wanted to put a ca or sr in a caddy, think that would be awesome

Easy007

no.

I didn't think so. I have never really looked at a caddy before...... i assume they have a rear beam axle but is it always attached with leaf springs?

M.D.
29-01-2010, 19:15
yeah they are leaf sprung as standard, which made my job easier as we just made new lowering blocks and mounted the axle to the leaf springs already there :)

had a bit of a downer today as when we put it back on its wheels one of the tyres we had lent it up on has left a massive dent in the rear quater pannel which we need to try and get out now. ah well all part of the fun..

anyway more progress pics

full rear set up now ready to be removed and painted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/mdnovaman/DSC00695.jpg

and the car back on the floor we swapped the front struts from side to side and fitted half a CV joint in the hubs to stop the bearing from falling apart

then we would start mocking up the gearbox

WOW i just swapped from dubs to jap (yesterday) and on one site i get my fix of both :) looks like a good project good luck!

M.D.

lol, its had a bit of a standstill lately as i had to change the head gaskets on the scoob, but thats all done now so we can get cracking on the dubscort !!!

it now has some engine mount brackets welded into the chassis legs so we can bolt on an engine mount to the block and the car with some kind of rubber, not sure what to use yet though, dont want to go solid due to the vibrations. so may go for some doughnut style of mount

A mate of mine used some hockry pucks when putting an RB in his S13, seemed to do the job pretty well!

the easy part about the caddy is that its got leaf springs so something to mount the axle to as a referance, will prob tall turret the thing in the future though,

ive seen the hockey puck thing, i have some nylon in work i could make them from but it is very hard. may just get hold of some old mk2 escort jobbies, they are fairly cheap even new

sorry for no updates lately, the last thing we did was hung the engine back in the bay with engine mountings welded to the chassis, but thats where its stayed for a while as a few other jobs have come up on friends cars which will help pay for this project, plenty of ideas though so wont be long till the build is underway again
