Right guys, seperate to the beer and food transportation thread :D, I have been discussing this with Doc and looking into different options a lot. I am now edging towards doing the LD Lines crossing from Newhaven > Dieppe

The times of crossings work well, and the specific crossing I am looking at is:

Wednesday @ 9:30, arriving in Dieppe at 14:30 meaning arriving at the camp site mid-afternoon.

Coming back they have a ferry running at 18:00 on the Sunday, arriving at 21:00 which means I can theoretically be back home before midnight.

Cost wise it is currently £108 for 2 adults and a car and saves 200miles in France (100 each way) over arriving into Calais.

I compared this with other options and for anyone coming from the South West or the Midlands it seems to make sense. Obviously for the Cambs and London lot, the Eurostar is the obvious choice. I cant get any sort of prices from the website as its crap, but I Docwra has confirmed its about the same price as the ferry (~£100)

Anyone else still undecided?

Ill be eurostarring it i think

Madda - I'd suggest returning on Monday morning rather than Sunday evening. I doubt you would be able to catch the 18.00 ferry back as the traffic will be an absolute mare around Le Mans... you would have to leave before the race finished. Furthermore you will miss the Sunday night fun and games.

That's just reminded me of when a little old pikey picked up a load of rotton meat and popped it all in her bag:hurl:

I have done the Newhaven Dieppe route for the last two years. It is a good crossing, but don't expect much with the quality of boat as it is a bit of a shed. It does cut out a big chunk of miles/time from the Calais route.

Nice and easy to get to LM. We went via the Paege for the first half, got bored of M-way driving, then the old N138 the rest of the way.

I like how they know if the 'full' bottle of beer is infact piss! Very clever considering there isn't much difference between French stubbies and urine anyway :D

The old N138 is the only way to go:nod:

Stidi,

We're looking at rental options at the moment. Think we've got van coverage now so may hire something a little more intersting ;)

JJ, come on down mate. Like Stidi says we'll get you in ;)

Think we're going Dover > Calais, that's the plan atm anyways.
Newhaven > Dieppe is fair bit longer, and the boats seem to be nowt more than decommissioned trawlers :wack:

PMSL, decommissioned trawlers sound about right.

Still haven't decided whether to come down on the Wed or Thurs... another night of drinking though is always a bonus:D

I went Portsmouth > Cherboug about 15 years ago - that makes the Newhaven crossing seem like Futurama :wack:

The boat was like the Mary Rose, before it was dredged up, and the crossing took roughly 47,423,215 hours. I sicked up. A lot.

Have you been on Dover/Calais route via P&O recently... it looks like the underneath of an S13! I could go via Eurotunnel but chances are the heat would get to the electrics and the train would break down in the tunnel:wack:
