.....is playing brilliantly against Nadal in the Australian Open! It's on the BBC red button and the website live, Murray has just taken the second set tiebreaker with the score currently 6-3, 7-6(7-2). The third set is just starting now and it's well worth a watch, there have been some awesome rallies so far!!

OMG i have been watching this on and off all morning, just missed the last half hour when he was a couple down in the second set, big comeback to win it...
Looks like a future world no1 and grandslam winner right there.

Damn it!! Nadal isn't looking too good here, I really hope he can continue as it was a good match up to this point. Fingers crossed for him. :(

Ah well, Murray is through to the semi finals but Nadal has had to quit. The first 2 sets were great though, Murray out played Nadal and deserved the win. I just hope Nadal manages to regain full fitness in time as it would be a tragedy to lose him from the sport.

Hoorah.

If I was 2 sets down and being outplayed, I'd contract a bad knee too. :D
Any one for siesta?! :D

Was watching this. Shame Nadal has dodgy knees - that was a cracking game.
As for Murray - he could be the real deal. Has the talent, has the desire, has the physique just needs real consistancy and grand slam victories are not far off.

As for Nadal - the beginning on the end?? He has no other game than 'all out' and if his knees can't keep pace, that not a great situation for a ~23 year old

That was a shaky start and he didn't seem to have the same composure as he had against Nadal but he turned it around brilliantly. Some awesome winners played in that game, roll on Sunday!! :notworthy

I normally couldn't give a fig about tennis but was listening to it on the radio and missed my turning to a customer. Twice :wack:

Sounded like an absolute corker of a game

I think it is more down to the fact that he is Scottish, and has explicitly stated in the past that he doesnt like the English :wack:.

IMO, if he wins then good on him, but that doesnt disguise the fact that he can come across as a complete tw@.

Wasn't it just that he said he didn't care if England won or lost a football match or something....

Seems reasonable enough to me. He's still a moody gobshite though. He's got better lately.

I find his tennis annoys me too. He can (and did with Cillic) play aggressive tennis, but usually he hacks. I hate hackers..... ARGH! :wack:

no he said "support anyone but England" at the 2006 World Cup" which is fine ... as long as people are free to say "they support anyone but Murray in the tennis"

Mark

No one Scottish supports England at the world cup, it was hardly a surprise :wack:

In fact not many Engish support England at the world cup :wack:

Yeah thats all he said, and iirc it was in jest at the time lol.
Fine if folk want to support someone else, but if your hatred or dislike of someone is because they made a throwaway comment like what he did then well... you need a bit of help.

I wouldnt know, i only read the Independent, me .

And the reason why i dont like him is because he is a moody, whinging little girl - i couldnt give 2 sh!ts if he liked the English or not.

Wow, i guess you say that about everyone you don't actually know? I bet you would be the same if you were in the spotlight all the time!!

I went to School with Andy and still talk to him and see him now and again if hes home.

The media have made him seem like a cnut but i can gurantee you he isn't, he is just your average Scotsman in relation to all that "i hate england pish"!!

schumi84
28-01-2010, 17:10
Not at all, it is all down to how they handle the media, pressure etc.

Just because you have the spotlight on you doesnt give you the right to act like a pillock, much like Lewis Hamilton to give another example.

It's a problem for sportsmen/women who essentially have to deal with the media as an unfortunate addition to their chosen career. Hamilton and Murray are both really young and it must be tough trying to focus on getting to the top of your sport while also trying to learn how to deal with the media pressure.

I think they both deserve a hell of a lot of respect but also some understanding. Most of us in our early 20s will be guilty of doing and saying stupid things, it's just not all documented fortunately. :)

Murray's not a nugget, I think hes pretty funny in his dry way.
He just doesn't play the media game.

I feel a little sorry for Murray for the way he is portrayed. He is a world class tennis player and finally we have one, even though he is scottish I still suport him and I;d love to see him win a "big" one such as this tournament

I for one was not surprised by his england world cup comment if he;d have said anything else I;d have thought he was a liar he is a jock after all!!

Why's Federer being a cock!?

I hope Murray stuffs him on Sunday!!

Jezz_S13
29-01-2010, 17:52
Federer is 6:4 down when they've met before and Andy's playing as well/better than ever so I expect it's some attempt at bravado/mindgames to try and make Andy worry a bit.

Should be a good game, hopefully Andy's experienced enough not to lose his head.

Stu
29-01-2010, 18:58
Federer is very complimentary of Andy in the video clip on that page, I reckon the text may be some very selective quoting. He's realistic in that Andy is a great player but points out there are a lot of great payers right now so putting himself in contention for the slams is good progress.

Federer is a legend of the sport and today was his 23rd consecutive grand slam semi final so to be fair he has a right to big himself up!! It's been more than 6 years since he failed to make the semi final stage of a grand slam and he has been in the final of his last 10!! :notworthy

Ah well, it was a valiant effort but Federer demonstrated in no uncertain terms why he is world number one! The first 6 games looked like it cold go either way but Fed was just too much for Murray today. Plenty more grand slam opportunities to come though!
