View Full Version : Places to stay/visit near Longleat Safari Park?
I'm thinking of taking the gf away for her birthday to Longleat Safari Park, she loves that sort of thing.
Anyway, it's a bit of a trek from us so I thought I'd make a few days of it.
Any suggestions from anyone who knows the area of where to stay/visit, for when we're not at the safari park?
I gather it's quite close to Bath?
Just looking for a nice hotel, and a few other things to do - shopping, eating, nice bars, spa maybe?
Any suggestions?

The Cross Keys, stumbled across this lovely pub/hotel/restaurant when me and the mrs went to Longleat last summer. The food was fantastic and not too expensive, I'd definately go back

centre parcs :wack:
Cheers Blaktooth, I'll bear it in mind.
Bayside - I quite like Centre Parcs actually, but not looking to stay there if I'm going on safari!!!
Not too far away is the Avebury stone circle and a village has grown up partially within the stones. There's a bed and breakfast actually within the circle which i've stayed in. Great to get up early and have the whole circle to yourself before heading off to Longleat.

Theres a travelodge:wack: just down the road from longleat, couple of little B&B's in Warminster..
For shopping theres Trowbridge(20mins away), Salisbury(30ish) and Bath(35-40ish) :wack:
When we went down we stayed here: http://www.babingtonhouse.co.uk/ - pricey, but really nice with an excellent restaurant. It also has *Deathstar* living nearby, although I dont know if thats a positive :D
In Bath itself we stayed here: http://www.thebathpriory.co.uk/ - again, not cheap but simply incredible service, decor and food. Both hotels do some special offers which make them a bit more reasonable

Bath Thermae Spa, went there Monday for the 7th time, the biggest chill pill ! Also The Bath Arms, Crockerton, for food with passion.
Cheers chaps - had forgotten about this :wack:
I ended up trawling TripAdvsior after deciding to stay in Bath. It seems that I had left it a little late, or maybe it was too close to Valentines day, but in the end I got us booked into the Carfax hotel for a couple of nights weekend after Valentines. Probably a bit of a so-so hotel, but we won't be in it too much :)
General plan for me is to travel up to Longleat on the friday, spend the day there then make our way over to bath.
Definitely want to check out some of the sights, and also spend some time in the Thermae Spa. Bit of shopping no doubt, some nice food and a few drinks :) Looking forward to it.
Is there anywhere to avoid in Bath, or is it all pretty good?
