I am the night security officer at a large IT company. I have subscribed to watch big bro using the RealOnePlayer.
Now up till laast night i had downloaded RealOnePlayer onto a pc on the network, (some guy who leaves his pc on and doesnt appear to really use it and uses 2 laptops instead but doesnt know i do) installed it and used it to watch bigbro. Then i would uninstall it at end of shift and leave his pc as was. Did this for last 2 weeks.
However last night i went to the obscure directory i had put RealOnePlayer in and went to install it as usual only for it to say at the end of the installation "you must restart your computer now"
Now in 2 weeks it hasnt required me to restart. Of course i cant restart because i dont know the network and bios passwords to get it booted up again into windows.
What happened ?
Did he do something like alter settings on his pc for it to now require a restart on instalation of this programme?
What can i do to avoid restarting it ?
How come it never required restarting before (not even on MY pc at home) but does now?

Any help appreciated as it can be a bloody long night without bb.
I really dont know what i`ll do if i cant watch 10 strangers sleep and cry out random things and slobber drool onto their pillows

Please help

cheers
dave

maybe you uninstalled shared components? often systems will say they need a reboot when they dont. give it a try, might work anyway.

FTI: if its a ME, 2K or WinXP machine tho, chances are its making restore points when you add and remove software, so its going to be very obvious that someone is messing around if they ever look there ...

thanks mate
Is there anyway then that i could take my pc in and connect it to the network at the point where the reception computer is? (which is the pc i AM allowed to use but its low spec and no speakers)
Will the network notice a different machine on at that point ?
Bearing in mind that the NIC card in mine is exactly the same as the NIC card that is used on the reception pc.
If i even went to the length of exchanging its NIC card into mine and using its settings would that be enough to use my machine in its place on the network without the network or the admin noticing?
Bearing in mind theres no-one there when i do this and the pc will be added and taken away whilst theree is not another soul in the building.

Come on there must be loads of guys in networking outhere

if its a big company, I wouldnt have thought so... you'd need your PC set up properly to belong on that network, maybe using a specific IP etc. you'd probably also need to be an administrator to join the network, depends how the network is configured though
