View Full Version : Unlock a phone for free?
Is there any software that I can get to unlock my soon to be new phone (Toshiba TG01) for free?
Or is there an alternative method?

No, not even on XDA Devs :(. But you can pay people to do it, prices from £15-£25
Ask Google
is this on orange?
i would go on to XDA developers and have a look to see if there is a ROM for it (cooked) and then it wil lbe un branded, or if toshiba has a rom on their website of their origional software.
but be warned, if you change the rom, and you keep the phone and there is an issue "some" phone insurances/networks will not fix the phone with a different rom as supplied as you can brick a phone when putting a different rom on it.
Well i will be upgrading it to winmo 6.5 anyway as hear 6.1 sucks so will be risking a flash anyway.
Is there a way to save your original install/rom?
Any recommended unlockers?

TBH 6.1 is alot better than 6.5, i'd wait for 6.5.3 to be fully released. its all depends on the toshiba GUI and how thats working. but a bare (no manufacturer GUI) install of 6.1 is really good, my last phone was that with loads of stuff installed and crashed about twice of 6 months of constant use (the only 2 times it did get turned off)

Changing the ROM doesn't unlock the phone, that's a separate process. I have a vanilla 6.5.1 ROM on my HTC and it's still locked to Voda
You may find someone on XDA-Devs who can unlock it, but I've never seen anyone doing it for free. It's a nice little moneymaker for WinMo hackers.
lol, ok. :D
I meant actually meant i have nothing to lose if it goes wrong since i'll be changing the ROM's I didn't mean to imply it would unlock it.
I'd seen the offers on XDA but wondered whether your IMEI code could be abused.

I sure there will be a way, but being a source of income, it's not the kind of thing this guys like to share :(
If the bloke in the street with a stall can do it with a laptop I'm not sure why it isn't possible for others to do. Obviously it's money making, but still...
I'm not that fussed at the moment, I'll just stick SFB mobile shell 3.5 on it, Opera 10 beta and be happy for a while :D The phone will likely be 6.5 before I get it anyway, and I'm getting a reasonable deal with Orange.
UPDATE: To unlock the Toshiba TG01 for £10, contact vitamise@googlemail.com
Just supply him the carrier and your IMEI number, he'll send you back an unlock code after you've paid him £10 via paypal (ONLY paypal).
To enter the code, put in a different carriers SIM card (i.e if your locked to O2, then try an Orange SIM for example), start the phone up and it should ask you to enter the unlock code. That's it, for only £10 :D
ALSO, my phone has seemed to slowdown lately, so am looking at custom ROM's, and even a WIN 7 ROM if I'm feeling brave :)

Nice phone! Waiting for the K01 myself.
Currently on a HTC Touch Pro with 6.5.3 (Titanium) and mobile shell 3.5 - and loving it :D A snapdragon would help things along of course....

Does anyone know how to unlock a Sony Erricson Satio?
One of my mates got given it thinking he could unblock it (the lad found it on a football pitch) but he couldn't so he's subsequently given it to me for a crack!
It says Simcard Registration Failed, what does this mean? That it's been blocked by the carrier?
Is it branded to a carrier? Try a sim from that carrier. If not then it may be imei locked which then is not worth unlocking. however your mate may have just locked that particular sim.
Thinking about it, if he found it on a football pitch it should have the original sim, so you will no the carrier. perhaps call the carrier and say you found the phone if it is a contract phone they should have an address.
Prob just the sim is blocke anyway....

Pretty sure it's an IMEI lock mate, obviously the lad/lass reported it lost and they blocked it.
That mean it's just a paperweight?
If it's IMEI locked, don't bother trying to unlock it. You'll get in serious sh*t if the cops find out apparently. It can be done, but it's not worth it for a phone.
