View Full Version : Any of you?
I've had a load of anonymous phone calls to my mobile, where the caller hangs up jsut after I pick it up.
Now, I doubt that it is any of you - you all seem far too nice and normal. But if I have upset someone to that point, be a pal and say so...
OK?
Dude, no offense but how would we have got your number???
If it becomes a nuisance, report it to your service provider who will take it up with the police for you.

Ring your service provider, they will tell you who has been calling, or block the number...
It is a crime AFAIK - you can get them in some sh*t if it's bothering you.
It's not me, btw! ;)
Another thought, it could be cold-callers. Most call centres for selling stuff use a system whereby their computer dials numbers off a list. As soon as one is answered it hangs up, rings back and patches the call to an operator (it know's you're at home!). If no operators are available it may do this a few times!
Good luck sorting it. :)
I don't seriously think it is any of you guys, but I'm running out of options as I don't give the number out much (it is my mobile).
The number is on my website which is linmked to fron this forum.
Virgin network is down atm so I can't get them to check, plus it coming up as anonymous anyway...
Grr and similar.
Like I say, I don't really think it is someone from here
It doesnt matter that you see it as anon, the service provider knows the number. Basically if the caller requests it to be anon the number details get stripped off at the main switch and then forwards the rest onwards.

Do you know how many programs sniff the web for
credit card numbers
e-mail addresses
and phone numbers
???
It could be anyone, most likely a premium rate foreign number, trying to entice you to call back - but unaware their number is blocked by the UK switches or something. I've had a similar thing at work on my mobile - it rings once and hanfs up, I don't ring back as it's a foreign premium rate number! It then went through the office, as our numbers are all similar and it must have been trying every number in turn.

What does it say when it rings?
‘Unavailable’
or
‘Withheld’
If its withheld then the caller has chosen to do so, if its unavailable the its a network unable to transmit CLI, probably an overseas exchange.
code of pratice for CLI (http://www.oftel.gov.uk/publications/1995_98/technical/cli698.htm#7%20RULES%20OF%20THE%20CODE%20RELATING% 20TO%20CALLING%20LINE%20IDENTIFICATION)
either way report to your service provider
