My mate uses a dial-up Freeserve connection to get on the net when he's at home. When he brings his PC round my house he can't use my ADSL router to access the net - when he opens IE and tries to go to a web site Freeserve keeps trying to start a dial-up connection.

Other mates who bring their stuff round don't have any problems connecting to the hub & then accessing the net. Any of you IT guys think of a way around this ( short of removing every trace of Freeserve ) ?

Cheers.

Iain

Simple answer is you need to change the Dial Up settings so it doesn't try to make it's own connection. Also is he putting in the right details on his network card's TCP/IP properties so it's accessing the router.

If your routers setup right he should be using DHCP on his nic settings!

And as andy says, your IE settings should read "Never dial, A am connected to a lan"

That should work!

He could also use the "dial whenever a network connection is not present" setting if he's not networked at home, and only networked when connected to the router  That way it would work at either location without changing any settings :D
