Hi all

While travelling back from Alton Towers yesterday, I filled up with BP Super Plus Unleaded @ 98 RON on the M1.

First time I've seen this - I thought they only did Super Unleaded @97 RON which, IMO, is crap.

The 200 seems to be loving the SPU - is it about to be introduced country-wide?

Cheers,
Dave

PS Air sponsored by Cadbury's Hero's is the shiznit

sounds good, and sounds like optimax sales might go down as shell now have a competitor!!

dont shell and BP still use the same depots and fuels? I know they did when they were split up under duress from the government...

We've got the BP 98 RON here too - they call it 'Ultimate'. Also Mobil make a 98 RON PULP. Both work just as well as optimax, but all seem to be the same price and optimax didn't become even a smidge cheaper as the others were introduced. So much for competition... :( but it does mean there are more places to fill up now.

Ooh interesting :) Thing is Optimax is still 98.5 Ron MINIMUM! so could still be higher :)

mmmm:( Might check that out dave. I wouldn't be surprised if your right though, even if it's only to be better than the competition:) In which case it's back to only optimax...

from www.shell.com (did a search and chose the second result listed):

What is the Octane level of Shell Optimax?

Shell Optimax has the highest octane specification of any petrol in the UK. It is greater than 98 Research Octane Number (RON).

__________

Hmmm... maybe it's back to optimax for me, for now anyway...

I thought Shell Optimax could be anything from 95-98 - they don't give an exact rating as it loses it's potency.

First time i've seen a pump with 98 RON clear as day printed on it.

84.9p a litre though

but that was on the M1 and i pay up to 84p a litre for Optimax in Cambridge.

That "losing it's potency" is bollocks. There was a thread from another forum on here and they reckoned that over about a year it would lose around 0.5 ron AT THE MOST (Clarified by Shell themselves). See Chris, 98+ :D

the optimax (http://www.shell.com/home/au-en/html/iwgen/shell_for_motorists/fuels/app_optimax.html) site basically states that optimax is 98.4RON typically.

Not sure how important that 0.4 is, but for the same price I will now feel that I'm getting something for free with optimax :):D

(and no don't go and tell me the others are probably the same - that would ruin it for me now, wouldn't it);):)
