Literally just looked at that link before I opened this thread. It's a cracking deal - shame I have no money left after Xmas

Any idea how long this one takes to load up?

It claims 6 seconds which sounds pretty good. Playing with mine today it is more than that (not sure exactly what the 6 seconds refers to ) and it looks like its quite dependant on the blu-ray you've put in :wack:
Still, the actual system seems to load pretty quick and the quality is spot on for that price

3 Yrs warranty and 3 Blu_Ray DVDs free.
Good price this, might have a look myself if they still have them in stock when I go into town.
The region 2 can be hacked to multi-region, but I think you need to use a one4all remote.

The 6 seconds refers to the quick-start feature - I believe if this is enabled then the player will boot up and start playing a disc in 6 seconds :)

I missed out at Richer sounds but popped into my local Sony Centre store and got a £329.95 BDP-S550 for.............
....................£99.95:eek: Last one in store but had only been out of the box since 24th Dec.
and to top it off i got it home, started it up and found a copy of Taledgea Nights on Blu Ray in the drive so got a freebie there as well:wack:

It was enabled - the davinci code still takes about a minute to load :wack: It's quite an early blu-ray though so later ones may be better

Did you have to specifically ask for a display model, or were they being advertised at that price? Might pop into my local Sony Centre today to see if they have any, otherwise I'll just go for the S360 + 3 BD's from Comet I reckon.

They were advertised at that price on the shelf. They could have one or 5 in store, just pot luck.

I haven't timed it, but it's probably 3-4 minutes after switching on before I can press 'PLAY' :o
Not bad for £900 :wack:
EDIT : I timed it. It took exactly 3 minutes to switch on and load District 9 to the menu.
Play.com knocking it out for £99...;)

Cool - I'll give my local Sony Centre a call.
It's a bit of a toss up for me, if Comet have the S360 with 3 BD's for £99 at my local store, then that is a pretty good deal, but I'm unsure whether the S550 would be a better bet.
I gather they are very, very similar internally, although the S550 does have 7.1 analog out, which would be beneficial for me until I upgrade my amp to acccept HD audio, and looks like it may have better build quality. But then if I buy the S550 for analog out, that means I'll have to buy a load of RCA's - might be better for me to stick with DTS over optical/coax until I upgrade my amp.
Decisions, decisions!!
Well, I wandered around quite a few electrical superstores yesterday, and everywhere was sold out of the S360!!!
I wish I'd phoned my Sony Centre first to see if they had the S550 for the same price! After the RS deal of £80 I didn't expect everywhere else to be selling so well with the same player at £99, especially when most places didn't have the 3 free BD's included (only Comet as far as I know).
