View Full Version : Freesat Bbc Iplayer beta now open
for those of you with freesat and a broadband conection, you can now acsses Iplayer via you telly/box, all you need to do is connect an ethernet cable to said box/telly.
Go to bbc digital text and type 5483, ignore the page not found and wait a while, bbc iplayer should then load

Having given it a try on the g10 an v 10 it wouldn't work it did work on the humax HD box tho which was cool, picture quality on hq was not bad.

Saves me trying then, it does say on the freesat page it wouldn't work on TVs, only Humax.
Not had chance to try it yet as I need to borrow a sat feed from the sky box, but everytime I look at it there is something (mrs related) recording.

Tried it on my G15 as well, and all I get is "Connecting..." :(

must be an update to come for the telly's then.
Slightly OT but this has got me thinking,
We have a sky dish on our newly rented house, no sky sub so its useless.. if I buy a Freesat set top box could I plug this sky dish in and get the channels?
(its one of the sky "mini dish" style ones I think"

I asked someone selling freesat boxes this very same question and he said 'yes'.

I picked up a Humax Foxsat HD box, screwed the sky cable (from a mini-dish) in and voila. Freesat.

That's almost what I did, but I already had a Sky box I got off ebay years ago, swapped that now for a Freesat TV, all plugged in with no fuss
Jut
nice :D
Cheers, might have to pick one up as we currently have no TV reception :D

Did he say what the issue was? I have a G15, but does it also affect your G10, which I believe has different firmware?

I don't know if you've had a play with Viera cast at work, but I was really surprised by the quality of the You Tube vids
Some more widgets would be nice though... I reckon there is a lot of potential there. Especially as I heard some sets (Samsung I think) are getting Skype widgets.

When will you know more about the new models then?
Ooooh, marvellous - was speaking to my dad about relaying iPlayer through DLNA just t'other day, and was looking for an alternative - anyone got any idea if the newer Bravia's will be compatible with this? I'll try and get the model number for more clarification :)
My GoogleMojo(tm) is weak on this though, and not coming up with much - most of the stuff I've found seems to be concerning last year's press release :(
Knowing Sony kit, it'll require a £400 proprietary add on unit...

feb is the official european unvailing, so far ive been told to expect 3 led lcd's models , edge lite and back lite, and some new and improved plasma's the g10 will become a G20 the 15 should become a g25 and the v10 is going to be a v25 i think.
And the launch of the first 3d plasma panels.

Agreed on the slowness, hopefully that will be addressed in the future, but it's not a major issue.

This thread has too many bits of weird jargon in it :(
For a moment, i thought this was referring to freesat connected to any tv... but its not??
So if i went out and bought a freesat box (~£60) for my HD tv, could it (or will it eventually) take an ethernet cable and provide iplayer through it to my tv? Or do you need a special tv? If yes, why??? :)

it's only one specific freesat box at the moment - the Humax Foxsat HD+ recorder wotsit. You can plug it into your router via ethernet and it will show iplayer. Other (freesat) devices will be added as the service goes live, but they will all need some connection to the internet be it wired or wireless, telly or set top box..

We're talking about, primarily, TVs with freesat built in with an ethernet port.
However this only works on some Humax Freesat boxes at present, ones with ethernet ports that is. Porbably not the £60 jobs.
Complicated, uh? :D
Look at the link jonboy posted.

Only complicated because if you read this thread through it seems like 'Humax' is an alternative to TV that i've never heard of :wack:, DLNA, G10, V15, Viera,............ i'm not really up on tv's and stuff :)
I'm clear now though, and looks like i'll get excited again in a few years when it's all sorted :D

That requires paying monthly for tv, i don't like it that much :wack: :D
Got iPlayer piped from pc to tv, which is totally fine for the forseable future :)
You can get a humax freesat Hd box Must be the Hd one tho as the ethernet port on none hd isnt used for lan conections.
once your box is all connected you download the current box software which takes about 30mins :annoyed: then on bbc press the red button and type 5483 the press ok and it will load up iplayer, after that it should just be on the sidebar at the bottom.

Well it looks like to iplayer might be coming to us Panny owners this month.
The DTG has noted that the current firmware broadcast ends on 15/02/2010. Which hopefully means that the new one will pop in behind it - fingers crossed
