I was trying to wire up my birds cd player in her newish micra.
Put red wire to red wire (constant power)
yellow wire to yellow wire (ignition power)
And black is earther.
CD player only comes on when the lights are on:confused: and not when ignition is on.
Do you think a fuse is gone somewhere. Although everything seems to be working
my micra had no earth in the loom, I had to ground it to the chasis. I bolted it down to one of the holes from the factory fit cradle thing.
had similar issues until I did this.
Sounds like you've wired the permenant live to the light wire. This wire is used to dim the faceplate display when the lights are on but it looks like maybe you've wired it to the wrong bit :)

very likley the ground issue.
If you check it with a volt meter it will look fine ,but its because one of the wires will be -0 volts not ground (Headlight sence).
Also make sure that when you ground it, it works fine with out the (Little Mermaid) pluged in, as you will get distortion if its grounding through it.

Been on the micra owners club
After reading through a load of posts seems to be the earth, has happened to most of them. I did cut the earth and bolted it to where the original steroe bolted in to, must not have worked though! Will give it a bash tomorrow.

have you an electrics tester? Just test the live wires and make sure that the constant live is just that, constantly live! and that the ignition live is live on the 1st key setting... if it is then its got to be ur earthing.

im with dave on this one too as you must be having a live feed from somewhere and it only seems to be live when the lights are on so...........
does it keep the presets even tho it goes off with the lights?
if it doesnt then you need a constant power supply, if it does its the one from the ignition you need to find.
its not always as easy as red to red yellow to yellow.
sure you find it tho.
