The charger for my HP Laptop (G70-12EA) has died
I took it back to Currys last night and they gave me a number for HP, who then gave me a number for Currys :indiff:
They want me to send the whole laptop back so that they can check it out, but I know it's just the charger as I can hear it making funny noises. It did work last night after I gave it a good shake :wack:
The problem is that it's just before christmas, I don't want to be without a laptop over the holiday period AND I move house on the 3rd of January.
I also bought the laptop on January the 2nd this year so the warranty will expire very soon.
I've seen Universal chargers and have (searched and) read someone talking about Inverters on here. Not being electrically minded (what is an inverter?!), what are my best options? I don't want to buy something that fries my laptop or its battery!

What colour is the little plastic bit on the end of the plug that goes into the laptop?

Silver and black I think.
Edit: Wifebird has confirmed this

Its apparently a 90w psu, say 19v at 4.9 - 5 amps
There will be loads avaliable on Ebay for not a lot of wonga.
Ive had one cheapy one from ebay which lasted all of 2 months before packing up. I then bought a universal one with the detachable ends. the end that fitted my laptop lasted all of 6 weeks before falling to pieces. £50 in and i wish id have spent £70 on an original item.
PC World or any independent PC shop should be able to sell one over the counter

Can you get a model number? Might have one here...

Laptop model number: G70-120EA
HP charger replacement model number: 463955001
90W
Input: 100-240v, 1.5a
50-60Hz
Output 19v, 4.74a
Whatever that means :wack:
Get one on ebay, easiest. not worth the hassel/delays HP will give you.
Power supply **** ups are common as fook with them :(
Replace it before it burns your house down (seriously)

Hence why i'm not using it anymore.
Problem with ebay is that by the time it gets here I'll have moved :wack:

Not got any that match, got a 65w but then it'll take a lot longer to charge up :(

Its not really charging thats the problem, but power usage. When on and doing something the laptop may well try to pull more than 65w of power and if the psu cannot cope it will shut down.
You need one at least 90w to provide the power required.

I run mine off a 65w psu all the time when I'm away, never had any problems except a message saying I need a bigger charger :wack:

Well then either your laptop doesnt need more than 65w under full load (and thus they just lable the requirments as 90w as that is what the top of the range unit requires and its cheeper to just make one psu)
or
You have never loaded up the laptop to full drain, ie charging and hammering the cpu + video system and disk drive at once.
I suspect its the former, ie it only need 65w to run but the requirements are listed as per the top model in the range so not to build differnet psu's.
If you have ran it off a 65w one before and its been fine then you can prob go with that.

Voodoo, you mean you've got one going spare? :wack:
Do you run a pc shop or something?
I don't mind sending the laptop off just to get a new charger but can't realistically do that until after the christmas hols.
I might take a trip to Maplin at lunch.

Yes  No I don't, but we have plenty of spare chargers :wack:
Does it have a connector like this:

or this:

Got a 65w of the former and a 90w of the latter... I reckon it's the first one though going by the date you bought it.

Oi! I've only just seen this! Cheeky so and so! :p
It seems that you've got a new charger now
What I was going to say was if you were 100% sure it was just the charger was broken, ring up HP and if your lucky and manage to get through to someone who actually isnt reading off a script 90% of the time you should be able to get them to just send you out a new charger for free/some times just having to cover the P+P cost.
*edit* not sure if I couldnt see it, but who wanted you to send the laptop back? Curry's or HP? If it was Curry's, well actually no I won't start ranting about how utterly shite and fecking useless the DSG group as a whole are.

HP want it sent back. I've tried twice to get them to send me a charger, but on both occasions they weren't playing ball.
Ahhh fair enough, it really does depend on the particular person who you speak to :(
If you've got any more problems with it drop me a P.M, where I used to work we were HP partners and the amount of kit that we ordered meant we had cupboards and cupboards of spares  Being on good terms with previous employers ftw.
