Hi Guys,

Need some help creating a web site and not sure where to look so thought i'd ask here as you guys know EVERYTHING!

Im wanting to create a website for creating ad's like Gumtree and Ebay but slightly different.

What I want to know is does anyone know a cheap (very very cheap!!) web designer who can make this for me, doesnt need to look amazing as I can tweak it later but needs to know how to make forms and include a payment system like paypal/google checkout.

Dont want to go into too much detail about the specifics but if anyone can help then PM me for more details if your a web designer.

Thanks

Kas, check out http://www.w3schools.com/ as it will give you a load of information on how to write html etc which you will need, including forms. I am not a web designer but I can build websites

Thaks, i'll give it a read. Can you recommend any cheap ISP's to host the website?

I really don't know as I tend to host websites at work now as I have a play server there :)

The design is only part of the work, remember your web guy needs to create the plumbing that'll control the ad system in the background. So you'll also need an ISP that supports the particular language that's to be used

Thats exactly what im after. I need a guy who knows all this as I dont know anyone.

Im really looking for a guy who can do it all and who knows a good ISP to use. I know how to create web pages with simple buttons and links and pictures but i dont know the forms and more complex stuff.

OK well you are going to need someone who knows either ASP.NET or PHP inside out to create forms etc that will run to a database. If it's a shop, have a look at OSCommerce, that from memory is free to use and quite common on the web.

If you are using ASP.NET then you need a Microsoft host, if you are using PHP you need a linux based host

Sorry to be a party pooper but what your after you won't get cheap

This type of job takes a very long time to do properly with a lot of development time (cost) involved let alone branding and design. Your brief sounds like a very complex e-commerce build, i'd be shocked if anybody who knew their stuff would do it for less then 5k and that would be on the cheap.

If you pay cheap you'll generally get sh!t but if you want to go that route look at some of the web development companies in India, they will do web builds cheap, they just won't do it well!

To try and balance the negativity of my post i'll try and be helpful, this is what you want to ask for:

- Website design including logos and branding
- Website xhtml templates
- Customer facing advert engine
- Payment gateway for taking customer advert fee's
- Backend content management system to administrate adverts and users and payments
- Frontend user management panel for customers to adminstrate their advert(s)

I don't know what your idea is but if you want it to be successful you will need to use a search marketing company to push it, web developers can build the neatest most standards compliant seo friendly website ever but unless you are actively marketing it and driving traffic it will take years and years for it to pick up.

I hope it works out for you

^^ Unfortunately what he said. What you're looking for we would usually charge out at 10k+ :(

i would start buy creating a detailed specification and going though every aspect of how the site looks and works. you will be surprised by how much work is actually involved. Also detailed spec will allow for a more presis price with fewer unexpected extra changes an/or charges during the build.

Thanks for the info guys!

Ive done some research and itturns out that theres already people doign what I wanted to do so i'd be trying to get some recognition in an already crowded market.

This was just an idea that I had as I thought that I could maybe turn it into something but a £5K or £10K investment is money that I just dont have and the plan I had I dont think will make that money back any time soon now that i've done some research so dont think its a worth while investment.

Well, back to the drawing board to try and make some extra money....
