View Full Version : M4 user's must read this!!!!!!!!!!
As of the 14th July 2003 information boards containing
speed cameras that calculate average speed over 1 mile
sections will go live on the M4.
These cameras continually re-assess your speed and are
linked to the DVLA ect,and can issue fines/points.
They have been on trial for a while but now they go live.
This was a letter that was sent to the girlfriend who
works for Tesco head office, and she is allways up and down the M4.

bastard government :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser:
You have been warned.
Hope this is useful to some one.

Do you know which sections of the M4? I use it a lot, and could lose my license 5 times over in a day, without even knowing! Bl**dy stupid politicians and their 'safety', err, 'revenue generating' campaigns.
Cheers for the warning! ;) :)

I had read about this on the board a while ago. Have examined the signs and can't see anything resembling this type of camera on them. Use the M4 quite a lot, and drove from where it starts in London to J32 in Wales this week - none of the signs looked like they had cameras on.
Thanks for the warning tho. If they do, the politicians/police responsible for them are :tosser: s.  :finger:

It's no good just slowing down for the one - you must slow down for the entire mile:mad:  and how are you meant to know where the mile starts and ends if there are a lot of them?   This is of course assuming the cameras ARE there

Well we could draw straws with the loser
razzing down the M4.
If he/she then gets a fine/points sent to them
we will know for sure:D

Is there no way of lobbying the government over these blatant revenue generators? I reckon if someone's doing 90-100mph on an empty, dry, straight stretch of motorway with good visibility there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with it. So why do the police still nick you? Money of course. Germany's laws are much better, and their road safety records are better. No speed limits on the motorway-- until it rains. This makes perfect sense. In poor road conditions I won't drive even at 70mph on the motorway - it is dangerous. Why can't we have laws like this?!

The ABD (http://www.abd.org.uk) are one of the best for this. They campaign on loads of motoring issues, not just speed. £20 a year ain't bad to "have your voice heard" in Westminster once in a while.

No point whinging to a forum of petrolheads about how unfair speed cameras are, cos we all agree with you already. You have to realise that politicos couldn't give a flying fcuk about speeding etc, all they want is VOTES. If they get more letters saying "think of the children, slow the evil buggers down" than "these are a very silly idea and I won't vote for you if you support them" then they think they're onto a winner and get with the plan. If they became aware that the majority (this is a democracy after all) of the public hated the poxy things they would disappear quick as you like. Sadly, your MP probably doesn't read sxoc.com so you will have to email them direct to put your point of view across on the matter.
Also join the abd, www.abd.org.uk, best £20 you'll ever spend as a motorist.
