just said on radio that some clever sod has invented a internet conection thats 6000 times faster than broadband!!! and it can download a film in 6 seconds  think they ment dvd qulity to. think what that will do the music and film companys
:)
Maybe so, but you won't be getting it at home over the copper pair into your house ;) :D
Dave
also even if you did, your hard drive cant spin fast enough to recieve that ammount of data ;)

When the limiting factor of my broadband connection is my pooter's hard drive, I will be a happy, happy man.
PS seen yer new wheels stoofer, look very nice.
Who's the other guy at work with the s14? He didn't keep up the other night when I was p*ssing about, so I guess he's being really careful with it.
he's on the boards mail me tomorrow and I'll tell you who he is... he doesnt drive properly though. He's had the car a week and says he hasnt wheelspun or even attempted a drift. :( then again when he drove his nre mini cooper and I just had a Micra 1.0 I kept up with him... dunno, guess he drives a bit
the new wheels are great, shame the valeting guy came today, if I'd have known I wouldnt have cleaned my car after the drift day on Monday and given him a real challenge :D

From the story
"6.7 gigabytes of data from Sunnyvale in the US to Amsterdam in Holland, in less than one minute"
"3,500 times faster than a typical home broadband connection"

can't wait...:) to techie dudes...
Yeah but that's the Internet2 and you'll have to go to an American Uni to get to it

You once had to go to an American military base to use ARPANET and look where we are today!
It'll come with time, 512kb/sec will seem laughable one day

optical switching i believe.
I saw a presentaion on it a while back, forgot what the data is. :o
SOmething to do with physics, particale collisions I think, the receptors are capturing 6 picabits/second or something so need a pretty fast network to do anything with it.
EDIT Doh just read the news thing, that's exactly want it was. :)

Im surprised the americans just called it internet2, they'd normally go with something like 'Internet2:The reckoning" or "Internet2:This time is personal" :p

The current internet2 network is packet over SDH (SONET - as it's yank) I think. Needs fibre as a transmission media before being demuxed into ethernet.

BTW I think the tagline should be 'the revenge of the webmasters'

U.S. and European scientists have set a new data transfer speed record, shattering the previous mark using nothing but good old fashioned Ethernet.
