Been spending a bit of time over the last few days looking for a new motor and I must say I'm very tempted by this one.

Rev3 Import MR2 Turbo. 29K miles, £6.5k

240bhp as standard, 0-60 in 5.2secs, t-bar roof and pop up lamps

Anyone had one? opinions? forums?

Cheers :)

The N/A MR2's handling is supposed to be quite skittish/twitchy, and the turbo is supposed to be even worse (s'got more power, innit) :)

What d'you think is so much better about that MR2 than the S13 then, apart from the age and the mileage? Not criticising, but if I was replacing the S13 I'd want something that was quite different :)

I was thinking of a Celica GT-Four ('95-on, the shape AdeGT4's got) for my next car, I find permanent 4WD and 240bhp as standard very appealing, plus apparently they're really easy to tune to over 300bhp :D

That won't be for a couple of years yet though, got to get my money's worth from the S13! :D

That car in the pic isnt a rev 3, they had new rear light cluster and different spoiler. That car is a rev 2 which means 90-93 and as such even with the low miles seems a little over priced. Also as standard they will not do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, more like low 6's. Oh, and the rev 2's are 220bhp as standard, the rev 3 though are 245.

They are very good cars but cost £££ to tune much beyond 280-300 bhp. T-bar is good for summer though:cool:

lol I was waiting for the hairdresser jibes!

Pete - want something newer and with low miles, but want something similar, bit bored with my 200, had it 18 months now, normally change cars once or twice a year, I've looked at GT4's but cannot find the 9K or so to buy a good one.

Cheers for the info and the link Mick.

Dunno what to buy really, looked at supra's,rx7's (too much cash), URQuattro's, lancer evo 2/3, S14's, 540 beemers (tempted 4.4l 286bhp V8!)

Dunno where this dodgy handling rep. has sprung up from, but I have to point out that the handling of the MR2 is excellent. It's just gotta be used in the right way to take advantage of the mid engined rear-wheel drive layout. I was being held up in the corners by 'teg R's at Knockhill yesterday in my 'weedy' N/A rev.2 MR2.

As has been correctly pointed out, the car in the pic is a revision 2 and as such that price is extortionate for it.

5.2 secs for the 0-60 dash is correct for a revision 3 turbo car.

the revision 3 is the one to go for, the handling is supposed to be great, i looked at a few b4 going for the 200, there were a couple of reasons i didnt get one, 1 is that i found it rather noisy, but that wouldnt bother me any more cos at the mo i think my 200 is too quiet and want a nurspec or apexi n1 just cant afford one yet. but the main one was that i found that the paintwork on all of the ones i looked at, and i looked at loads all had a sort of orange peel finish to them and when i asked around i was told that the japs arnt as fussy as us brits and so the non turbo's made for the uk market underwent a much better spraying process, i am a sad bar steward who likes my car to look very shiney (washed 3 times a week) i test drove a few just for the sake of it, and i loved the performance:D :D

My friend has had a N/A and a Turbo, sound bonkers having the engine right behind your head, lol.

Handling wise they are quite good, I was in the rubo when it was bet and we pulled off a roundabout on to a single laned by pass which has a slight bend at the begining, when he booted it the backend stepped out nicely

Gotta agree thought that for £6.5k you could get a better car *cough S14 cough* :D

Have you not thought about a 300?

The short answer - BOLLOX :finger:

To drive one properly requires a degree of skill which your average bleed-for-a-few-days once-a-month driver does not posess.

I tried a '94 MR2 Turbo before i got my S14. and i did a lot of research beforehand.

The handling is supposed to be excellent if your a skilled driver, but if you lose the back end, the weight of the engine swings it round and you dont have anytime to correct it.

And although the 3SGTE engines are pretty indestructable, they cost a fcuking fortune to fix if a problem arises. Plus with it being in the back, that makes it even harder to get to.

I wouldnt say the 'Turbo' was a girls car, its a bloody fast performance car, But I chose the S14a over it because I thought it was better. Just not faster in standard form.

It is too expensive after having a look at a few, would definately want a rev3 "if" I got one. 0-60 in 5.2 for a standard car is quick enough, not worried about the handling, grew up with mk2 escorts!

S14, well why have a 2+2 if you only need 2 seats! but they are still in serious contention for next car.

I have been looking at 300ZX's, not convinced though, only driven one for about 20 miles, it was stupidly quick, tweaked TT, liked the interior, lots of buttons!
