hi all at turbo dynamics

could you please have a look at my link to my rr results that i have just had done and read the all the replys to it,

i spoke to one of your members of staff when i bought the turbo from you about the start of this year, about a leak around the flange on the compressor housing, i was told if it was leaking from here that it wouldnt affect the turbo.

this is the second gt2871r .52 trim .64 a/r turbo i have had from yourselves

the first turbo i was very happy with and only changed due to my old engine piston failure but this new one has not yet been as good as the first one

my name is mark butterworth and i live down the road in bransgore dorset

think it was mark, at your christchurch branch i had spoken to.

please let me know if you have any advice for me

Hi Mark,

I'm not quite sure how your conversation with Mark went but he must have got the wrong end of the stick somewhere as there is noway it should be leaking from the adapter ring to the compressor cover. He no longer works for the company so I will apologise on his behalf for any confusion.

For a leak to be occuring it normally points to a warped or distorted backplate, we can check this for runout and either replace or use some sealer between the two faces (this is common on Borg Warner turbos and we always pressure test those units before they leave the building).

How have you tested for the leak? I will echo others comments of it being rather rich but it still should not be leaking from the compressor cover.

Obviously I am not in the office at the moment so have no access to our customer database but feel free to give me a call on the regular number tomorrow to discuss further.

thank you for your responce matt

it leaked quite bad as soon as i installed the turbo and before i ran the engine when i carried out the leak check, i did not rotate the compressor housing at all and thats why i got in contact with your staff,

the leak check i do, is a device plumded into where the afm should go so i can charge the full inlet system of the turbo and the engine, all the joints on the inlet system and the actual plenum its self dont leak. its a test i have carried out many times with no problems and i have all ways been able to find the leak on pipes. and sort out the fuelling issues in the past. its only this one thats being a pain and as stated theonly leak is from the turbo compressor housing flange.

Not a problem at all Mark, it would appear you've been the on the receiving end of some poor advice for which I apologise again. If the member of staff was still at the company I would be having a word with them.

The test you carried out sounds very comprehensive, it seems like we need to have a look at this turbo and find out why it is leaking.

I rarely have a chance to check the SXOC during work hours (as you can see from my postings time) but am normally available on the phone or via email (matt@turbodynamics.co.uk) so we can discuss this further and rectify your issues.
