View Full Version : Making your own web site and using a domain?
Basicly im hopefully going to be starting my own business in the new year.
Iv bought a domain for my website but iv not got a clue what to do now:wack:
I tryed to make a page with 123-reg but i really cant use that!!!
Are there any easy to use free or very cheap options out there?
And now i bought the domain, how the hell do i use it:confused:
Any help? Iv done a google search on "how to make a website" but there are soooo many to choose from, thoght id ask you lot?
Best bet is to find someone on here who will make you a website for a few quid - if you aren't IT minded then it can be a bit of a minefield, and anything a software package can make from templates will look pretty amateur and not reflect well on your business..
Any technical questions feel free to drop me a PM - I'm up on the technical side but in no way am I a talented web designer :wack:
Hey Polo, if you do decide to get someone to do it for you, drop Paradigm Shift on here a PM, he does web design stuff. Should be pretty cheap.

Its times like this I wished I'd actually bothered starting the website design course I paid £1500 for 3 years ago
What sort of site are you looking to put together?
If it's a basic business description spread across a few pages, then getting someone on here would be the quickest/easiest option. Flash is always a nice option, but think carefully about what you're trying to get across.
If you want an e-commerce style site, there are some companies out there who provide the whole framework in a template and you just adjust the look to suit. Most will say they aren't much cop, but I've had a play with one in particular and while not entirely individual, it's very functional and inexpensive for the options it provides.
As with jonboy, feel free to PM me with any questions, I have limited experience with this stuff.

im just after a simple site 3-4-5 pages. About, contact and location, products and pricing, customers feedback and cars, blog and photos.

Definitely try Moonfruit.
It's totally free to use, you can use the domain name you bought for the site and is generally ace for a free web builder.
I needed to build a website so had a go using Moonfruit without any prior knowledge and have ended up building three professional looking sites.

Don't use Flash if you want it to be "Accessible". A lot of screen readers can't cope with Flash.
